Duties
We are seeking a PhD student to conduct research related to ruminant nutrition. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary research team in order to generate novel findings and scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
The student will be evaluating different nutritional strategies for dairy-beef production and assessing these strategies on greenhouse gas production. The student will be responsible for sampling and data collection, as well as analytical and technical support for analyzing samples collected from the animal trials. The candidate will also contribute to the drafting of internal project reports and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed scientific journals for publication.
Work environment
The student will work within the Ruminant System Science research program at the Lethbridge Research & Development Centre. The student will be working alongside a research scientist, research technicians, undergraduate students, graduate students, as well as collaborations with other research programs. Work across ruminant animal facilities, the laboratory, and at the computer can be expected.

Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a PhD program in a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Animal Science, Agriculture or any other related fields.
Note : Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and the student must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Operational Requirements :
Possession of a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license or other provincial / territorial equivalency.

Ability and willingness to control allergies, through the use of personal protective equipment and / or medication and this must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
Ability and willingness to periodically work flexible hours as dictated by animal research.
Ability and willingness to travel, including overnight travel to obtain training and to acquire and transport research animals or samples (e.g. from collaborating institutions).
