Role purpose
The Senior Project Manager, Major Projects, will lead complex initiatives ensuring alignment with business goals and stakeholder expectations. This role requires an experienced project manager with a deep understanding of infrastructure systems, applications development and processes, excellent stakeholder management, and the ability to thrive in dynamic, high-pressure environments.
Given the mining and industrial nature of the organization, candidates with direct experience in mining operations, field environments, or similar heavy industries will be strongly preferred, as this knowledge is invaluable for navigating unique challenges in these settings. The underground mine background is a good asset.
You will also be responsible for the planning and delivery of projects. You will be involved in major projects such as : Studies, Capital projects and Closures, managing contracts, resources, budgets, changes, and risks and using data to drive decisions and insights.
As a Senior Project Manager, a deep comprehension of cultural distinctions is crucial, as it influences task execution. Moreover, you are tasked with facilitating communication between stakeholders, other IS&T teams, ensuring a seamless flow of information.
Key Responsibilities
1. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) :
- Analyse, identify, and manage risks to the personal health and safety of field personnel.
- Located at Salt Lake City or periodically tTravel to various mining and operational siteson to SLA site to ensure fieldwork is executed safely and in compliance with company standards. (3020% and more of travel time is expected depending on work and timing of projects)
- Enforce a "Stop Work Authority" policy in cases of HSE control failures, seeking support to resolve issues before resuming operations.
2. Project Planning and Execution :
Develop and execute comprehensive project plans tailored to industrial and mining environments.Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in alignment with business goals and operational needs.Establish timelines, milestones, and performance metrics to track and ensure project success.Develops and manages project schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniquesEnsure quality of delivery and engagement with other IS&T teams, including Technology PlatformsReport and escalate to management as neededCreate and maintain comprehensive project documentationTrack project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goalsMeet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysisDevelop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members3. Stakeholder Management :
Collaborate with key stakeholders across mining operations, technology platforms, and business units to gather requirements, address concerns, and maintain alignment.Provide regular project updates to leadership, business partners, sponsors, procurement teams, and other relevant stakeholders.Maintains relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement.Lead multidisciplinary teams, including field operational staff, solution architects, IT specialists, and business representatives.Foster a collaborative and high-performing environment using influence and motivational leadership.Optimize resource allocation and workload distribution for maximum efficiency.4. Change Management :
Develop and implement change management strategies for seamless adoption of new systems and processes in mining and field environments.Conduct business risk analyses and provide user training to ensure operational readiness.Address resistance to change, ensuring smooth transitions for all stakeholders.Provide input into and ensures compliance with standardised project processes, systems and tools across projects.5. Risk Management :
Proactively identify and mitigate risks unique to mining and heavy industrial settings, including remote operations and infrastructure dependencies.Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions as needed.Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and standards throughout the project lifecycle.Oversees the design and implementation of mining projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.Competencies (Skills & Experience)
10+ years of project management experience, with at least 5 years in mining, field operations, or heavy industrial environments.In-depth knowledge of WAN / LAN infrastructure, telecom & Radio communication systems, server platforms, application development and cloud solutions.Experience collaborating with infrastructure maintenance teams and field operations personnel.Strong knowledge of Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.Bachelor's degree in information technology, engineering, or a related field. PMP certification is a plus.Proven ability to manage complex projects with diverse teams.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.Demonstrated expertise in change management and user training.Expert and experienced project & Program delivery skills and competenciesExpert PM Plus in deliveryUnderstands the methods adopted by Major Projects in terms of WBS structures, chapters for feasibilities and package managementStrength and curiosity in using data to drive improvementsKey Attributes for Success :
