Job PurposeThe Journeyman Plumber contributes to the success of the Saulteau First Nations (SFN) by maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure of Saulteau First Nations. This position involves performing skilled plumbing work on community houses and assisting with projects in civic buildings. The journeyman plumber will ensure the delivery of high-quality plumbing services that meet the needs of the community, contributing to the overall health, safety, and well-being of its members.Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstall, repair, and maintain plumbing systems in residential and civic buildings, ensuring compliance with local plumbing codes and standards.Diagnosing and troubleshoot plumbing issues, providing effective and timely solutions.Collaborate with other tradespeople and contractors on community and civic projects.Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on plumbing systems to ensure optimal functionality.Respond to emergency plumbing calls in a prompt and professional manner.Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentice plumbers, fostering skill development within the community.Participates in weekly work planning meeting with Maintenance Team to discuss completed and upcoming tasks for the week, complete required reporting each week.Ensure that he / she only undertakes work for which he / she has been properly trained and qualified and / or certified for and follows approved safety procedures.Comply with SFN’s safety policies and procedures, ensuring all activities are conducted in a safe manner and adhering to safety in the workplace and Work Safe BC regulations.Conduct safety inspections of the work area to identify any hazards and inspects equipment to ensure proper functioning, correcting any deficiencies and / or reporting any potential hazards to the Supervisor.Ensures that the individual’s work area is kept in a clean and presentable manner.Maintains work order system and schedules maintenance; updates weekly and as required for emergency situations.Identifies and communicates emergency situations requiring immediate attention to the Supervisor.Participates in all SFN sponsored community events as required.Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications and SkillsCertified Journeyman Plumber with a valid license to practice in British Columbia, Red Seal preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with plumbing tools and equipment as a tradesperson. Knowledge of Building Code is an asset.Ability to solve problems, set priorities, make decisions, and manage time effectively. Ability to function independently, and frequently under pressure while managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.Ability to work with little supervision and work collaboratively with colleagues, supporting the Housing Manager, Public Works and Facilities Maintenance Manager and Capital Projects Coordinator as needed.Safety training including First Aid Level 1, WHMIS, hazardous chemicals, confined space etc. is an asset.Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License. Valid criminal records check.Work ConditionsWork is performed primarily during the hours of 8 : 00 a.M. to 4 : 30 p.M. Monday through Thursday. Occasional Overtime may be required.Travel may be required within SFN community and surrounding community.Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs may be required.Works both indoors and outdoors may be required to walk on rough ground conditions and conduct field assessments under all types of weather conditions
