Work Type : Full Time

In April 2024, the Boards of St. Mary’s General and Grand River Hospitals both independently voted in favour of a voluntary merger of the Hospitals to form a new hospital organization. This evolution of our partnership will occur alongside our joint redevelopment work, as we strive to build a new acute care campus in the community. We welcome talent to both St. Mary’s General Hospital and Grand River Hospital that are ready to be part of an exciting, generational change for hospital care in Waterloo Region.

Please Note : New employees must provide documentation / proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH or GRH.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for a large clinical portfolio including the Inpatient General and Specialized Medicine services across both acute care sites in the newly merged organization made up of the current St. Mary’s General Hospital and Grand River sites. The objective of this role is to provide leadership, direction, coaching and mentorship to staff within the program, ensuring teams have clinical service plans and annual objectives in place which are aligned with the organization’s strategic plan and objectives. Building and developing high performing teams is a key objective of this role, inspiring staff to want to work within the program and creating an environment where patients and care partners are confident in the care they are receiving.

Position Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in business or health related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years of formal healthcare leadership required, experience must have included managing direct reports, budgets, quality improvement initiatives and collaboration with external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with various legislations including PHIPPA, ECFAA, People’s Health Care Act, etc. required.
  • Member in good standing with regulatory college.

Responsibilities At a Glance

  • Develops the strategy for the program internally in the organization
  • Works collaboratively across the organization with peers to influence strategy and decision making
  • Responsible for meeting the budget commitments and integrated plan targets
  • Creates and manages the clinical capital budget for the portfolio
  • Drives improved performance across multiple quality metrics
  • Creates a positive, engaged, and high performing culture
  • Responsible for hiring staff, engaging the teams and ensuring alignment to our mission, vision and values
  • Oversees performance management including direct reports, managers, educators, etc.
  • Lead ongoing continuous quality improvement and program efficiencies
  • Preferred Requirements

  • Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation considered an asset
  • LEADS training considered an asset
