Job description

OVERVIEW

The General Accountant participates in all accounting-related tasks for the entities under his / her responsibility, including financial reporting, cash management, the budget process, and external audits. He / she ensures that accounting is complete and accurate, and that timely financial data is presented internally and externally on a monthly basis. In addition, the General Accountant ensures that internal controls function properly and are tested periodically.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • General accounting, including general ledger, journal entries, account analysis, intercompany balances, fixed assets, month-ends, JD Edwards systems and Cognos Controller financial consolidation software for Kruger Energy entities.
  • Preparation of sales invoices.
  • Provide support for tasks related to utility tax and sales tax and coordinate directly with the respective government entities (federal and provincial).
  • Participate in the preparation of internal financial statements, financial reporting, and monthly observations.
  • Support the Accounting Manager in the preparation of external financial reports (monthly / quarterly) for financial institutions.
  • Assist in the preparation of cash flow forecasts for the entities under his / her responsibility.
  • Actively participate in the preparation of the annual external audit.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Manager in the analysis of variances in corporate service expenditures and follow up with Cost Centre Managers.
  • Contribute to the development of relevant accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc reporting procedures.
  • Ensure that the various sites have implemented appropriate internal controls and procedures and ensure that these controls are functioning properly.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration / commerce or accounting, or an equivalent level of relevant work experience.
  • EXPERIENCE

  • At least 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in accounting and business, including financial reporting, auditing, and taxation. Industry experience is an asset.
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough understanding of code requirements in Québec or other jurisdictions (Ontario, New York).
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with large financial systems (preferably JD Edwards).
  • Knowledge of IFRS standards is an asset.
  • LANGUAGES

  • Bilingual, French and English.
