Job description

Reporting directly the Controls Engineering manager, the Engineering Specialist will be part of the Nordion Engineering team. This position will be responsible for Control System design and installation of Industrial Irradiators. Additionally. You will be expected to engage in approximately 40-60 days / year of international travel to customer sites, overseeing Irradiator installations and providing crucial on-site supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Control System design and installation of Industrial Irradiators. The control system is typically comprised of a PLC and SCADA system with SQL Server components.

Tasks include : Working with customers to understand and document requirements, controls systems design, specification, programming, simulation and testing, start-up assistance and after sales support.

Approximately 10% (40-60 days) of the role will require international travel to customer sites.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree and 8-10 years relevant work experience
  • Proven experience with industrial automation, proven experience in Allen Bradley Guardlogix PLC logic and programming, Wonderware HMI / SCADA programming and SQL Server database
  • Experienced with Motor and drives application, including using Encoders, VFDs, and Servo drives.
  • P. Eng certification

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Planning, scheduling, executing and delivering of internal and external projects
  • Superior time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining focus on priorities.
  • Prepare reports for distribution to various groups, outlining technical details, results or conclusions.
  • Provides technical guidance and technical reviews of projects.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment on complex decisions falling outside standard practices and procedures
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field and incorporate as appropriate
  • Experience within quality systems to product lines assigned such as ISO 9000
  • Knowledge on machinery safety is an asset.
  • Additional Requirements

    This position may require occasional shift work on evening and / or weekends, includes working in a combination of office and industrial environments

    International travel is a requirement of the job

    Training Required : Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker
