This role involves planning, developing, and implementing labour relations and collective bargaining strategies, providing solutions aligned with our strategic objectives, overseeing disciplinary and grievance management processes, and leading high-stakes investigations.
This position reports to the Vice President, Human Resources.
- Key Responsibilities
- Foster positive labour relations with bargaining unit employees and representatives.
- Manage labour relations processes, including grievances, arbitrations, and collective bargaining.
- Advise leadership on employee and labour relations matters.
- Support and advise on the administration and interpretation of collective agreements, policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Oversee workplace harassment, discrimination, and violence investigations.
- Lead sensitive workplace investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Liaise with internal and external legal counsel.
- Manage the annual labour relations budget and performance metrics.
- Utilize analytics to identify trends and develop strategic recommendations.
- Improve employee experience through targeted initiatives and programs.
- Review and approve non-medical workplace accommodations ensuring compliance and consistency.
- Develop and implement education programs on Employee Relations topics.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments on policy and compliance issues.
- Lead and contribute to special projects supporting organizational objectives.
- Develop collective bargaining strategies and mandates.
- Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Human Resources Management, Commerce / Business Administration, Public Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- CHRL or requisite experience.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in Human Resources and Labour Relations in a unionized environment.
- Proven experience leading collective bargaining.
- Expert knowledge of labour relations, human resources, and employment legislation.
- Excellent communication, project management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle confidential information.
- Proficient in MS Office and HR systems. Workday experience is an asset.
