Reporting to the Director, Bookstore, Printing and Mailing Services, the Manager, is responsible for the majority of the sales and merchandising activities of the Keele campus Bookstore.
As the Bookstore is a revenue-generating and self-sustaining entity, this position supports the development and implementation of the Bookstore and York University strategic plans and new initiatives.
Through the management of a team of senior sales associates, bookstore associates, sales associates, part time and temporary staff, the Manager is responsible for the effective functioning of the front store sales team and ensuring high levels of service are maintained.
The manager is also responsible for back store operations, including accounting and financial operations of the Bookstore, all cash and point-of-sale functions, accounts payable and receivable, shipping / receiving, loss prevention, health and safety, and renovations / fixturing.
This position is the in-house expert and administrator for all systems and needs necessary to maintain the operation and support the success of the team.
Education :
Undergraduate degree in business, finance, marketing or a related field or equivalent combination of education & experience
Some post-secondary training in financial accounting required
Valid Ontario G' class driver's license in good standing is an asset.
Experience :
Minimum of five years' of progressive people management experience.
Minimum of years' experience in accounting or a related field or supervising accounting activities.
Experience with supervision in a unionized environment preferred.
Experience in the educational sector is preferred.
Skills :
Demonstrated knowledge of retail procedures
Thorough understanding of inventory management, principles of accounting operations and financial systems..
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Office applications.
Knowledge of Payment Data Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS)
Knowledge of relevant government agencies and legislation ( Sale of Goods Act, Competition Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, WHIMS, Retail Sales Tax Act,
Ability to develop and implement procedures to organize the work of a large staff
Ability to supervise in a unionized environment
Tech savvy with ability to teach and train others.
