Job description

Volunteer Lethbridge Association is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead and manage the association in alignment with the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day operations, human resources management, program delivery, community relations, financial stewardship, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

Visioning & Leadership :

  • Align the association’s vision with strategic goals and committee strategies.
  • Provide guidance to the Board of Directors to facilitate informed decision making.
  • Act as a resource to the Board on policy and procedural matters.

Operational Planning & Management :

  • Develop and execute an annual operational plan with specific goals.
  • Identify internal and external factors impacting the organization and provide updates to the Board.
  • Program & Service Management :

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services.
  • Ensure programs meet the needs of the community and reflect the Board’s priorities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to enhance program delivery.
  • Human Resource Management :

  • Oversee recruitment, training, and performance evaluations of staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive work culture through effective leadership and training initiatives.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers receive proper orientation and ongoing professional development.
  • Financial Management & Risk Assessment :

  • Develop and manage the annual budget.
  • Ensure financial accountability, including sound bookkeeping and transparent reporting.
  • Oversee fundraising efforts and maintain strong relationships with funding sources.
  • Community Relations & Advocacy :

  • Serve as the spokesperson for Volunteer Lethbridge Association.
  • Build strong partnerships with local government, community organizations, and funders.
  • Represent the organization at key events to increase visibility and promote the mission.
  • Support Sector Capacity Building :

  • Engage with the nonprofit / voluntary sector to understand the needs and gaps present in nonprofit programming across Lethbridge.
  • Develop supports or resources to support the nonprofit / voluntary sector.
  • Leverage relationships to identify expertise to support capacity building (i.e creating mentorship program, workshops, etc).
  • Qualifications

  • Education : College or University degree (e.g. Management, Social Work, Volunteer Management), or equivalent experience.
  • Experience : 3-5 years managing a community-based volunteer organization, HR and leadership with a small team.
  • Skills : Strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, organizational abilities, and proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite.
  • Specialized Knowledge : Highly skilled in voluntary sector management, cultural awareness, and community-based programs.
  • Board and Sector Knowledge and Experience : Proven experience and success with strategic and operational planning, government and funder relationships.
  • Personal Characteristics : Friendly, compassionate, thorough, and an effective leader with interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and conflict resolution.
  • Working Conditions, Salary & Benefits

    The office is located at 324 – 5 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta in the U of L Dr. Foster James Penny Building. Normal operational hours are weekdays from 8 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m., flexibility is required for attending scheduled activities or events in the evening and on weekends. Occasional community travel may be required.

    Additional Requirements : Police Information Check

    Starting Salary : $60,000 - $65,000 per year
