We’re looking for a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join our Histology team in Brampton, Ontario. You will be responsible for the preparation of samples and / or reagents for routine processing. Perform simple non-interpretive tests under the technical oversight of a Senior Clinical Laboratory Assistant or Medical Laboratory Technologist as required. Ensure quality control checks and standards are run as required. Independently perform simple non-interpretive tests escalating to a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist for support and guidance as required. Ensure quality control checks and standards are run as required. Participate in all quality assurance programs and ensure company and Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines are observed. Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as appropriate and deal with problems that arise. Your contributions will make a difference and will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone’s life. This is a temporary, full-time position for 18 months. Ensure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testingFollow established protocol for the handling of unsuitable samplesOperate complex instruments following department proceduresPerform simple non-interpretive testing proceduresEnsure that all abnormal, critical and STATS are processed as outlined in the department guidelinesResponsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation and results as and when requiredEnsure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional mannerEnsure adequate amount of supplies are on hand and that validated reagents and testing kits to be used are in date orderData enter the results into the company’s database as requiredEnsure that quality control checks are performed as required in documented work proceduresRefer results for Medical Laboratory Technologist to reviewResponsible for monitoring quality control guidelines and making appropriate correctionsResponsible to follow all relevant pre and / or post analytical quality protocols as described in the company quality assurance manualPerform routine equipment maintenance following documented proceduresDocument all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructionsObserve and report all malfunctions in equipment and maintain all required logbooks for routine equipmentResponsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment on a daily basisStore and discard specimens according to appropriate department procedure manualsWhat YOU bring to the role :
Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification required or graduate of an approved laboratory assistant course or Diploma / Degree in Health or Science requiredExcellent data entry skills requiredAbility to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentExcellent verbal and written English communication skillsStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environmentNice to have :
Knowledge of AS400 Data Entry system / LISExperience in HistologyMLPAO designationWorking Conditions :
