Overview of the Role :
Reporting to the Vice President,Academic, the Dean functions as an agile and future-focused leader to make animpact strategically and collaboratively in a culture of innovation andprofessional development. By exercising sound judgement and decision making,the Dean will be a key member in driving NAIT’s Vision, Promises and Values.
The Dean develops strategies to meetthe current and future needs of polytechnic education and applied research byidentifying and forecasting current and emerging needs, ensuring the School ofMedia & Information Technology is globally competitive, recognized, andstrategically networked.
Along with leading the School ofMedia & Information Technology to success, the Dean also serves assenior member of the NAIT Academic Leadership Team, which contributes to theoverall leadership of the Institute through participation in the development ofacademic and business plans, financial plans, and performance objectives.
Key Accountabilities :
Providing visionary leadershipto the School that guides and supports program leaders and faculty towards aculture of innovation to meet industry needs and achieve student success.
Driving and advancingmeaningful and effective relations with industry to effectively align theschool with current, and future industry needs.
The Dean will workcollaboratively with :
Internal industrysolution-focused support areas to develop and implement the integration ofapplied research into academic plans.
Local, regional, and provincialgovernments to position and enhance the School’s presence and reputation withinthose arenas.
Other institutes to create andcollaborate on partnership initiatives.
Advocating for funding toestablish and maintain state-of-the-art facilities for applied learning andresearch.
Developing and executing thestrategic enrolment management plan, with focus on strategic and sustainablegrowth through introduction of new or renewed programming.
Championing instituteinitiatives that link academic learning with practical skills development,facilitating seamless transitions to professional environments.
Strategically developing andmanaging the School’s overall budget and providing strategic oversight ofschool administrative functions.
Providing mentorship andleadership guidance to others as part of successional planning.
The Ideal Candidate :
Along with excellent communicationskills, sound knowledge of academic and administrative leadership functions ina post-secondary environment; and a strong desire to develop others, the idealcandidate will be ready to make a lasting impact and lead with agility andforesight.
Qualifications :
The next Dean, School of Media andinformation Technology should possess :
Graduate degree in a relevantfield, doctorate degree considered an asset;
Recent experience in a seniorleadership role within a complex organization leading a large, high-functioningteam;
Leadership experience within anacademic institution as well as significant faculty experience within a relateddiscipline preferred; and
Equivalent sum of relevanteducation and experience considered.
Remuneration : $ 140,327.20 - $ 185,914.56 annually, plus a comprehensive benefitspackage.
