Introduction
Major Projects Branch is responsible for the successful and timely delivery of high-priority, large scale, high-value and high-risk capital projects. The branch provides project management for the department’s major capital program including coordination, scheduling, and financial management. It also oversees project deliverables including procurement of regulatory approvals, land acquisition, engineering, design, and construction.
Conditions of Employment :
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of workign on construction sites
Qualifications : ESSENTIAL :
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and must be registered or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers Geoscientists of Manitoba (EGM)Must have appropriate scope-of-practice in linear infrastructure such as highways, water related infrastructure, and / or bridgesExperience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse work groups and contactsExtensive experience in the field of project management, including design and construction, contract management and managing interdisciplinary teams is requiredAbility to analyze policies and programs to determine feasibility, cost-effectiveness, consistency with established departmental policy and recommend alternatives in finished formExcellent consultation, negotiation and conflict management skills to deal effectively with complex and sensitive issues and adapting to diverse stakeholders with potentially conflicting perspectives and requirementsStrong planning, research and analytical skills to identify and integrate relevant information to determine appropriate course of action / outcomesAbility to organize and prioritize workload to meet competing deadlinesKnowledge of related Highway Traffic Act, Highway Protection Act, Highways and Transportation Act and the Workplace Health & Safety ActKnowledge of current construction principles & methodology, construction specifications, and guidelines as it pertains to the department’s businessKnowledge of specialized technical functions such as environmental assessment, materials and traffic engineeringKnowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and procedures.Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and Office SuiteDesired :
Proficiency with project management software is desiredDuties : Reporting to the Director of Major Projects Branch, the Major Projects Engineer provides leadership, support and technical direction to the Major Projects team in the delivery of the department’s major capital projects. Provides engineering expertise, guidance and supervision to internal and external project staff including professional engineers and other technical staff, and is responsible for managing, providing sound leadership, planning, coordination, and financial accountability for the major projects capital portfolio.
