EnergySolutions is an industry leader in the safe recycling, processing and disposal of nuclear material. We provide a full range of Decommissioning and Decontamination (D&D) services to shut down nuclear power plants. Our customers include the United States Government, all United States Nuclear Power Plants, along with various medical and research facilities.

EnergySolutions offers a full range of services for the decommissioning and remediation of nuclear sites and facilities, management of spent nuclear fuel, the transportation of nuclear material and environmental cleanup of nuclear legacy sites.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Projects and Regulatory Affairs, the Project Engineer will provide technical input and oversight to nuclear waste, transporation and D&D projects.  The Project Engineer will be responsible for planning, providing oversight, executing and closing out of projectsts within an established budget and schedule.

Job Description / Tasks / Responsibilities

Responsible for the planning, design oversight, execution and closeout of assigned engineering project within established budget and schedule.

Responsible for acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members to deliver project according to plan. Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assigned projects.

Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as chemical engineering systems including reaction vessels, filtration systems, ion-exchange skids, piping and vessel systems.

May run experiments and tests to aid in the development of processing systems.

May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments.

Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to document compliance with project and code requirements, which may include mass and energy balances, pressure profiles, pipe, pump and vessel sizing.

Generates and is fully conversant with Process Flow Diagrams, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)  and Process Data Sheets.

Interfaces with staff, within the team and supporting sub-contractors to ensure work is being completed in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring that safety is an integral element embodied in equipment design and specification.

Works in multi-discipline teams on project-based work and ensures integration of design across multiple disciplines.

Works to assigned schedules ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of work and initiates corrective measures to overcome delays.

Understands, complies and is responsible for working to environmental health and safety policies and procedures and attends meetings as required. Provides supervision and leadership to members of the design team, commensurate with seniority.

Recommends new equipment, concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify design, reduce costs, correct design flaws or to comply with changes in client requirements, codes or regulations.

Performs independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of plant changes and design modifications.

Relies on extensive experience and judgment.

Leads and directs the work of others.

Significant creativity and latitude is required.

May act as Lead Discipline Engineer or Engineering Manager on dedicated Project(s).

Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements / Skills

Superior written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to interact well at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders

Ability to work to tight deadlines, work well under pressure, and respond rapidly to changing demands

Must have the ability to be flexible and work with competing priorities.

Advanced level skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access a plus

Detailed knowledge in the management of complex engineering projects

Qualifications

Graduate degree in a relevant area of study from a university of recognized standing and is a member of PEO or eligible to be a member of PEO

Chemical or Mechanical is perferred, or any Engineering degree in a related field

Familiarity with complex engineering concepts, practices and procedures and regulatory requirements relative to the design and operation of a Canadian Deuterium (CANDU) power plant is an asset.

Minimum of 8 to 10 years experience required
