About the Role

Provides clerical and financial support to the supervisor, and reception and general office assistance to the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. Assists the Manager with processing research payroll appointments business and travel expense reports, electronic and manual journal vouchers, cash advance, timesheets and invoices. Prepares and processes a variety of financial transactions and documents. Assists departmental staff, faculty, etc. with using university’s financial systems and applications and responds to inquiries and requests for information regarding routine transactions / record. Maintains knowledge of and interprets and implements university regulations, Tri-Agency Guidelines, and procedures governing use of research of funds and communicates these requirements to users. Responds to requests for general information; types correspondence and maintains accurate database and spreadsheet records. Maintains departmental webpages and social media channels. Sorts and distributes mail, arranges for courier services, orders and maintains office supplies.

Qualifications

High school graduation and one year of post-secondary education or formal program equivalent. 3 years of experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate / program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • Good knowledge of standard office practices, methods and equipment.
  • Excellent knowledge of bookkeeping methods and accounting principles.
  • Good knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical reasoning, organizational skills and problem-solving skills.
