The Senior Financial Analyst (2 Year Limited Term) plays an integral role in supporting the Victoria Shipyards Finance team on understanding project / program financials through analysis, forecasting project profit, variance analysis, Estimate at Completion (EAC), and other analytics. This position reports to the Manager, Program Finance and has responsibilities for Victoria Shipyards revenue reporting, audit support, program reviews that include the historical review of financial data to predict future results.
Note : This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.
This is a 24 Month limited term employment with eligible benefits and 3 weeks’ vacation.
What you’ll do
- Works as a business partner to support program teams by ensuring financial tools and reporting are useful and allow them to make informed decisions.
- Review and analyze project variances between forecast and actuals and provides explanations for a broader audience.
- Build and maintain cash forecasts for projects and analyzing variances to actuals with explanations to a broader audience.
- Prepare month-end accounting entries, allocations, and automation of month-end activities.
- Build, maintain, and distribute month-end reports, including cost reports for projects, backlog tracking, EAC reports and program results.
- Assist with the budgeting process for project / program teams and provide analysis of results compared to budgets / prior year actuals.
- Reconcile complex balance sheet accounts.
- Support quarter-end and year-end reporting processes as well as year-end audit.
- Draft new and update existing procedures and process documentation.
- Review operational leases and property taxes.
What you’ll bring
Bachelor’s degree and / or equivalent.Professional accounting designation preferred CPA & PMP.Proven experience in operational / project accounting with experience in advanced Excel modelling and data mining.Minimum 5-10 years’ work experience in financial reporting, close process, accounts analysis, and audit support.Customer service skills, self-starter and initiative driven. Ability to work within a team but also independently address complex situations.Solid understanding in month-end close process.Experienced in ERP and MRP (JDE or equivalent) Business Systems.Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective listening skills.Advanced Excel skills (macros, pivot table, lookups).Strong presentation Skills (internal & external)Adaptability and flexibility to change.Ability to work well under pressure, problem solve and multi-task.Why you’ll love working here

In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
