Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner is a leadership role within a multidisciplinary and interprofessional team. This Nurse Practitioner role works in collaboration and consultation with Psychiatry, nursing and members of the interprofessional team.
The role is primarily to support the care needs of the adult acute mental health population across the continuum of care.
The Nurse Practitioner works in partnership with all relevant stakeholders, excelling in all four domains of her practice : clinical care, leadership, education and research.
Primary Responsibilities
- The Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, excelling in all four domains of their practice : clinical care, leadership, education and research.
- Support patients throughout the continuum of care to ensure timely, relevant and appropriate clinical care is provided to support the patient’s journey to wellness
Skills & Abilities
- Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience as advanced practice nurse in the mental health field preferred
- Minimum five (5) years relevant mental health-related experience as a Registered Nurse
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, interprofessional team members, and other stakeholders
- Possesses highly developed analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, with demonstrated competency in information and communication technology
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and coordination skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workload demands
- Demonstrates an ability to provide leadership, support and critical analysis in stressful, complex clinical and emotional situations
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse in the extended class with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Master’s Degree in Nursing
- Nurse Practitioner Primary Health Care certificate / credentialing from approved program
- Current member of the Nurse Practitioner’s Association of Ontario with Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing experience preferred
- Current member of RNAO.
