JOB SUMMARY UNDER THE GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES AND THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE CONSEILLÈRE EN SERVICES ADAPTÉS. THE ATTENDANT FOR DISABLED STUDENTS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSISTING DISABLED STUDENTS IN THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THEIR COURSES AND / OR IN OTHER ACTIVITIES. THE ATTENDANT ASSISTS DISABLED STUDENTS IN THEIR MOVEMENTS, PROVIDES THEM WITH ASSISTANCE REQUIRED BY THEIR CONDITION AND ENSURES THEIR WELL-BEING.

  • THIS POSITION IS FOR 21.0 HOURS PER WEEK; HOURS MAY BE REDUCED BASED ON STUDENTS’ SCHEDULE

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Physical accompaniment within the college environment : arrivals and departures (from adapted transportation or transportation provided by parents, assistance with retrieving items from lockers, mobility in the college, orientation within the college, adapting the classroom and arranging furniture to meet the student’s needs, transporting equipment, shopping in the college bookstore.
  • Assistance with academic work : accompaniment to classes, assistance in laboratories, assistance setting up materials on the student’s desk, assistance collecting handouts, assistance conducting research in the library, assistance using books and textbooks, assistance with the preparation of materials for oral presentations, accompaniment during internships.
  • Physical accompaniment when interacting with others : assistance with communication, assistance with team projects, assistance with and accompaniment to meeting with teachers and staff, accompaniment on required field trips related to courses,
  • Perform any other related tasks as may be assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS : Education

    Secondary school diploma or a diploma of vocational studies in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

    Specific Requirements :

  • Ability to deal efficiently and pleasantly with people
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • English advanced, both oral and written
