Part-Time Registered Social Worker

Reports To :   Clinic Director, Becoming Therapy / Devenir Thérapie

Employment Type :  Part-time, Independent Contractor

Hours :   Sundays, Weekday Evenings (Minimum 10-15 direct client hours / week)

Location :  Downtown Cambridge (Galt), Primarily In-Person, Some Virtual (Hybrid)

Becoming Therapy / Devenir Thérapie is a bilingual English / French outpatient private practice setting. We specialize on emotion regulation and skill-based support, offering a wide range of mental health services to children, teens, and young adults. We are looking for a  child-specific counsellor.  This is an in-person position in Cambridge, Ontario, with some telehealth hours from home.

Job Requirements :

We are looking with someone with a BSW, an MSW, or a PhD, registered and in good standing with the OCSWSSW. You must have or be willing to obtain professional liability insurance to work in this position. Applicants with lived experience (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, personal experiences of adoption) will be prioritized for interviews. French is an asset but is not required.  We are looking to hire an applicant available for Sunday day shifts and weekday evenings either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday.

Responsibilities :

Principled and Evidence-Based Care :

  • Demonstrate a commitment to highly principled social work, and embrace and implement evidence-based care practices.
  • Stay informed and knowledgeable about healthcare legislation relevant to individual therapy and private practice.
  • Practice from a trauma-informed, attachment-based lens.
  • Utilize an integrative approach, incorporating somatic experiencing, CBT, DBT, ACT, EFFT, the Zones of Regulation, motivational interviewing.
  • We would be excited to meet therapists specializing in EMDR or brainspotting, which is not currently offered in the practice.

Client Assessment, Treatment Planning, Professional Boundaries :

  • Conduct thorough assessments of clients' needs and develop individualized treatment plans. Experience working with ADHD, autism, and neurodivergence is an asset.
  • Regularly review and update treatment plans based on client progress and changing circumstances.
  • Implement evidence-based practices to improve client outcomes.
  • Prioritize self-care and maintain professional boundaries to prevent burnout.
  • Seek external supervision to ensure service excellence and the well-being of both clients and oneself.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping :

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Complete necessary documentation, reports, and case notes in a timely manner.
  • Collaboration and Communication, Client Advocacy :

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, educators, and community partners, to provide comprehensive care.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and stakeholders to ensure a holistic and client-centered approach. Advocate for the rights and needs of clients within the healthcare and social service systems.
  • Stay informed about policy changes and advocate for improvements in mental health services.
  • Educational Outreach and Community Engagement :

  • Conduct educational workshops or presentations for clients, families, and the community, while staying informed about relevant social work practices and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Engage with the local community to foster partnerships and promote mental health awareness, and represent the clinic at community events and participate in networking opportunities.
  • Qualifications & Experience :

  • BSW, MSW, or PhD in social work.
  • Must be legally able to work in Ontario.
  • Registration in good standing with the OCSWSSW prior to start date.
  • Professional liability insurance required or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of in-person direct service in social work / counseling.  Please note this is not an entry-to-practice social work position and requires experience working directly with children.
  • Experience in regulated healthcare settings (child welfare, schools, hospitals, corrections, or residential treatment facilities) is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Jane App and OneDrive is beneficial.
  • Ability to offer psychotherapy in French is a significant asset.
  • Exhibit a passion for supporting children and teens and the LGBTQIA+ community in finding hope for the future.

  • Hours of Work :  The Independent Contractor is to work a minimum of one six-hour shift on the weekend (five clients during the day on Sunday), with 1-2 weekday evening availability. The successful part-time applicant can dedicate  10 to 15 in-person hours  per week, with additional telehealth hours available.
