CPA Senior Accountant
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to fullcycle accounting and financial reporting within a government institution. The successful candidate will play a key role in monthend processes financial analysis and reporting ensuring compliance with accounting frameworks and organizational policies. With a focus on accuracy and efficiency this position provides a chance to collaborate with senior management support audits and drive improvements in financial operations.
What is in it for you :
Hourly salary of $50 to $60 based on experience.
4month contract with a maximum extension term of 12 months.
Fulltime position : 36.25 hours per week.
Weekday schedule from 8 : 15 am to 4 : 30 pm.
Hybrid role : three days per week in the Edmonton downtown office and two days remote. The hybrid model will be available after the initial onboarding and training period which is expected to take place in the office.

Responsibilities :
Perform monthend close procedures and prepare monthend reconciliations.
Assist with quarterly and annual audit processes as needed.
Assist and provide direction to others within the accounting department and advise direct report of potential areas for improvement.
Ensure accounting task completion in accordance with policies procedures and business strategies.
Create all financial reports in accordance with the appropriate accounting framework.
Review monthly reconciliation of bank accounts.
Prepare any internal review documents.
Reconcile GL Balance Sheet accounts.
Prepare timely and accurate management reports as required.
Assist senior management with special projects as required.
What you will need to succeed :
CPA designation.
5 years of experience using accounting principles and Canadian public sector accounting standards.
5 years of experience with financial reporting ensuring accuracy and compliance.
5 years of relevant work experience including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
5 years of experience accurately calculating posting correcting and managing accounting figures.
5 years of experience with public sector accounting (preferred).
Experience in the Government of Alberta environment or a comparable environment (preferred).
Experience with the Government of Alberta financial system (1GX) (preferred).
5 years of experience with research analysis and problemsolving.
5 years of experience developing and maintaining positive professional relationships.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High customer service skills and ethics.
