Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Wills & Estates Lawyer with a minimum of 3 years of post-call experience to join our client's team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estate planning, estate administration, and probate matters , with the ability to provide strategic legal advice to clients on complex estate matters. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can manage files independently while delivering exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients on estate planning , including wills, powers of attorney, trusts, and tax implications .
- Draft and review wills, trusts, codicils, and estate administration documents .
- Assist executors, trustees, and beneficiaries with probate applications, estate administration, and asset distribution .
- Handle estate litigation matters , including will challenges, power of attorney disputes, and dependent support claims.
- Provide guidance on succession planning for high-net-worth individuals and business owners .
- Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive estate planning strategies.
- Conduct legal research, prepare court documents , and represent clients in court where necessary.
- Maintain compliance with Ontario estate laws, the Succession Law Reform Act, and the Substitute Decisions Act .
Qualifications & Skills
LL.B. or J.D. degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) .Minimum 3 years of experience in wills, estates, and trust law .Strong knowledge of Ontario estate law, estate administration, and estate litigation .Proficiency in widely used legal software, including :Divorcemate or Fast Company for estate and trust planning
PC Law, Clio, or LEAP for legal practice managementMicrosoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)Excellent drafting, analytical, and client communication skills .Ability to work independently while managing multiple client files.
