THE ORGANIZATION
Our client is a premier specialty steelmaker offering a unique combination of carbon, stainless, and other specialty steel capabilities. The Welland facility can produce approximately 150,000 tons of carbon, alloy and stainless steel annually with an Electric Arc Furnace with a capacity of 75 tons per batch supported by an extensive array of refining options. ASW currently produces cast billets and ingots in a variety of sizes and lengths and is the only producer of stainless steel in Canada. In this capacity they supply many dependent industries including nuclear and aerospace in North America.
THE OPPORTUNITY
To lead, manage and develop the Finance team to enhance operational and financial reporting and performance. To oversee the preparation of financial statements, the maintenance of cash controls, the management of payroll, and accounts payable / receivable. Overall responsibility for the accounting operations of the company and to ensure financial reports are up to date and meet accounting standards. KEY DELIVERABLES
Leads financial function and provides accurate and timely reporting of results.Develops appropriate reporting tools for improved assessment of business performance and preparation of annual business plans and budgets.Prepares various budgets for direct materials, direct labour, production, manufacturing overhead, ending finished goods inventory, selling and administrative, cash, and master budgets.Manages monthly financial closing and the provision of all related financial reporting to stakeholders in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).Prepares cost-volume-profit and break-even analysis for various product lines and for the company overall.Supports and collaborates closely with Financial Controlling department at parent company and oversees the preparation of KPIs and all other company results, as required.Oversees the preparation of audit and tax materials and work with auditors and tax consultantsForecasts and manages cash flow and credit managementConducts customer profitability analysis.Seeks out and seizes opportunities for cost reduction through process, policy and practice initiatives and the development and implementation of procedures required to improve internal controls, increase operating efficiency or further safeguard the assets of the company.Advises senior management and guides financial decision-making.Ensures compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements including tax and government filings and pension-related requirements.Interfaces with senior operational management to align in a strategic direction and ensures reflection of directives in the forecasts and business plansManages inventory control and develops policies and procedures to ensure consistent effectiveness of inventory control.Ensures compliance with all legislated and company safety policies and practices.Completes all other duties as assigned.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management / Administration, or related field.Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) DesignationTen years of professional designation experience including inventory management, costing, budgeting, and financial reporting, preferably in an industrial setting.Five years of experience managing a team of financial professionals.Superior analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.High-level computer skills with an emphasis on spreadsheets and ERP systems.Established management skills, including the ability to mentor, coach and motivate a high-performing team.Excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of courage, honesty and integrity and the ability to gain the trust and confidence of senior management.Proven ability to develop and implement plans, procedures and processes.Demonstrates critical thinking skills to determine the best financial approach, maintains budget controls and advises management.Strong time management skills with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.Ability to manage complex projects by directing and coordinating the activities of team members.Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and the ability to successfully convey and present financial information in an easily understood manner.ABOUT LHH KNIGHTSBRIDGE –
