Lead Building Technician, Montreal

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is currently hiring for a Lead Building Technician to support our data centers.

The Lead Building Technician (LT) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire / life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center.

The LT manages small-to-medium projects from conception to completion, obtains and tracks quotes for all necessary costs, and documents project results for future implementation at other facilities.

The LT supports Engineering Operation technicians and any third-party vendors in their role of providing hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switch gear, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems.

This team works in an environment that operates 24 / 7.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, in French and English.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • In-depth understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations such as : generators, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
  • Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 lbs and / or work in elevated locations.
  • Ability to work in an environment that operates 24 / 7 with an ability to provide after-hours support as needed.
  • Bilingual in French and English required. Must have the ability to read and speak / communicate in French and read / write / speak / communicate fluently in English with respect to complex technical instructions and concepts.

  • This position requires that the candidate selected obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good working knowledge of French and English.
  • Bachelor's or College's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in Mechanical / Electrical Field.
  • Electrical or Mechanical trade (Post Secondary Education).
