METALLURGICAL TECHNICIAN
Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, the Metallurgical Technician is responsible for promoting safety in the Mill’s work environment, while carrying out their assigned duties. In this key role, the Metallurgical Technician must be an exemplary employee focused on safety with a constructive and energetic personality. They will interact with Mill employees, supervisors, coordinators, managers and JHSEC. They must be a committed team player with a strong knowledge of and dedication to safety and production methods. Other duties will be assigned as per operational needs.
The list of duties and responsibilities below is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the position. All employees are required to be professional, cooperative, and flexible in line with the requirements of the position.
Operational / Technical Execution
- Ensure all of McEwen Mining’s safety rules, regulations, and policies are being followed by self and all personnel while on site.
- Promote McEwen Mining’s health and safety requirements and procedures within their respective department and team.
- Conduct metallurgical technician activities in accordance with the established training guidelines and procedures while ensuring conformity to both industry and companies’ best practices.
- Perform general technician duties as well as metallurgical laboratory research and plant testing.
- Coordinate activities with operations, maintenance and negotiated contractors for mill expansion.
- Prepare and conduct grinding, leaching, and carbon activity tests, then prepare written reports based on these test results.
- Water treatment reagent addition and adjustments to achieve water quality targets.
- Work in the refinery and oversee its operation as needed.
- Troubleshoot the milling process as needed.
- Cleaning work area during scheduled shift and after shift has concluded.
General Administration and Controls
Develop and implement process changes based on laboratory research for diverse types of ores.Provide technical direction for front line production supervisors and aid engineering students as needed.Monitor results and prepared reports (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual) of mill operations and identify the KPI for the mill.Upkeep and complete necessary metallurgical files.Conduct procedures on controls within the milling process and report to the Chief metallurgist any deviations.Conduct monthly reagent inventory for the mill.Conduct biweekly and / or monthly gold inventory for the mill.Prepare the Mill Metallurgical Balance.Support and assist with the diagnosing, debugging, and troubleshooting the mill circuit.Qualifications and Skills Requirement :
Must be authorized to work in Canada.Ability to work safely, efficiently, and always maintain a safety conscious mentality within the Mill environment.Highly motivated to learn / train and become part of the McEwen Mill team supporting all the milling processes with professionalism.Possess a desire to learn and apply their skills in the milling environment in order to maintain and operate all relevant equipment in the metallurgical laboratory and throughout the mill.Superior verbal and written communication abilities, facilitating effective dialogue with team members.Ability to interact with a wide variety of departments / roles.Ability to maintain attention to detail in a fast moving and demanding environment.Solid analytical capabilities coupled with good problem-solving skills.Able to work in a flexible production environment while possessing strong team coaching skills.At times, able to work overtime or in the evening and weekends.Ability to lift 50 lbs.At minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Metallurgical, Mineral Processing, MiningProficient in Excel and other MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)Experience with computers, peripheral equipment, and information systemsPrevious experience with metallurgical / mineral processing lab test equipment.Valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation.Milling or Metallurgical experience is an asset.Diversity and Inclusion
