PRIMARY ROLE
The Intermediate Electrical Designer & Drafter will :
- Work closely, and under the guidance of Senior Electrical Designers and the Lead Electrical Engineer (Responsible Engineer (RE)).
- Responsible for preparing electrical designs and drawings for assigned projects, this includes performing electrical designs calculations for integration into the electrical packages.
- Determine adjustments and changes while following standards and regulations as well as established project specific guidelines for projects of medium complexity.
RESPONSIBILITIES & KEY TASKS
Participate in model reviewsPerform electrical designs calculations for integration into medium complexity electrical packages such as : voltage drop calculations, heat tracing calculations, cable tray fill and load calculations.Review content and implement vendor drawings into the electrical package.Assist in providing detailed man hour estimates for class 3 and 5 estimatesAssist in providing trends evaluation.Assist in providing bid evaluation and recommendations based on vendor bid proposals.Assist in providing estimates for equipment, materials, and labor.Design single line diagrams, motor control schematics, junction boxes, wiring diagrams, electrical layouts, grounding layouts of medium complexity.Provide quality solutions quickly and efficientlyACCOUNTABILITIES
Completing all assigned designs and drawings accurately and in a timely mannerKeep current on all codes, standards and regulations pertinent to electrical designEnsuring a safe workplace environment in adherence to company and legislated safety standards.Strong verbal and written communication skills required.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Post-Secondary Education / Designation
Two year Diploma in Electrical Design / DraftingSupplementary Educational Needs
CAD training from a recognized institutionEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
3-5 years’ work experience in the electrical design of oil and gas industry projects.Ability to function in a high-demand and fast paced environmentGood experience with AutoCAD, both 2D and 3D, an assetAbility to read and interpret P&IDs and line designation tablesExperience with industry related analysis and design software e.g. vendor software for Electrical Heat Trace designKNOWLEDGE BASE REQUIREMENTS
Familiarity with Electrical codes and standards, familiar with Canadian Electrical Code, Workplace Electrical Safety, API Standards, IEE Standards, NFPA Standards related to electrical design ➢ Hazardous area classification design and fugitive emission studies.3D modelling of trays and other electrical equipment.Knowledge of discipline specific equipment and materials.Understanding of processes common in the oil and gas industry.Knowledge of other disciplines and the interface requirements.Proficient with MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.Familiar with MCC (Motor Control Centre), VFD (Variable Frequency Drives) and UPS (Uninterruptible power supply), power distribution design, lighting, grounding and voltage drop calculations.Knowledge of, and ability to comply with, standards and procedures in Tridyne Health & Safety Manual and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
