Our client, a top 5 bank in Canada is looking to hire a Legal Assistant on a 16-month contract role with a strong possibility of extension.
This position is hybrid with 2 days in Toronto office.
You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the discovery process, including legal holds, collections, reviews, and record production for litigation and regulatory investigations but not limited to.
- Manage multiple simultaneous cases through the entire e-discovery process using state-of-the-art technology.
- Collaborate closely with litigators to define discovery parameters, including custodian identification, search terms, and relevant factors.
- Draft and issue legal hold notices, monitoring custodian responses.
- Conduct and document custodian data source interviews.
- Instruct technicians on database setup in e-Discovery review platforms and provide technology training to legal counsel.
- Maintain documentation / chain of custody logs.
- Analyze and respond to e-Discovery requests in collaboration with the legal team, adhering to the principle of proportionality.
- Plan and implement the review process, including preparing workflows, drafting review instructions, managing reviews, and performing quality control checks.
Qualifications :
- 1+ years of experience in the legal industry.
- Proficient and comfortable with new technology.
- Understanding of laws / legislation relevant to the practice area, legal terminology, and documents related to litigation.
- Basic accounting and math skills.
- E-discovery experience is an asset.
- Experience with Relativity software is a plus.
- Previous banking experience is advantageous.
