The Mechanical Designer is responsible for design and execution of assigned projects from M3 to M7 stages as well as supports other departments through M8 to M12. The Mechanical Engineer may also need to assist other product teams as needed.
Job Duties
- Design and detail required drawings by first developing concepts, do required research, computation and analysis
- Ensure engineering specifications and other documents are stored accurately at appropriate locations as per engineering procedures and Samco Product Development Process
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through training, educational programs and review of engineering publications.
- Successfully execute assigned projects with timely release of long lead and standard components
- Ensure that released designs conform to Samco engineering standards and meet specific project requirements as per the COA
- Ensure that the Samco Product Development Process & checklists are fully and effectively utilized
- Ensures that designs and drawings are accurate
- Timely response to issues related to design for manufacturing, assembly, testing and warranty periods by providing support during M8 and M12 phases
- Collaborate with supervisor and co-workers to ensure engineering procedures are followed and quality designs are released to accomplish personal, departmental and company goals
- Exchange information and knowledge on all engineering and other departmental and company issues
- Ensure effective and ongoing communication between Mechanical, Electrical and Tooling engineers during the design process
- Maintain positive and productive working relationship with supervisor, co-workers, and other members of Samco
- Be courteous and helpful when dealing with customers, suppliers, and other members of the Samco team
- Maintain a positive attitude
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and policies as outlined in the Company Health & Safety Manual
- Follow all plant safety rules
- Comply with all company rules and regulations as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Follow departmental procedures required by ISO and actively participate in recommending improvements
Job Requirements (Education, Knowledge & Skill)
An engineering or undergraduate degreeMinimum 7 years engineering experience responsible for design of heavy machinery equipmentAdvanced computer skills with an understanding of Inventor or some advanced version(s) of other 3D design softwareAbility to create concept designs, detail drawings using latest company used CAD and analysis programsAbility to analyze and solve engineering problemsAbility to use Finite Element Analysis as neededKnowledge of conveying and material handling equipment and manufacturing processesWork Conditions & Physical Demands
