Role
Reporting to the VP, Market, Product & Tech Innovation & COO, the Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for developing and executing an integrated marketing and communication plan to enhance WSPS’s brand, value and drive business growth. A key focus will be on using new and innovative approaches to expand WSPS’s reach and engagement with Ontario businesses and workers in the agriculture, manufacturing and services sector. This role oversees marketing, communications, and events and will provide team leadership to ensure cohesive and effective campaigns are in place. In addition, the Director will oversee CEO and key stakeholder communications and has a role in protecting the corporate reputation as part of business continuity. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director works closely with other senior leaders to align marketing and communication initiatives with overall business objectives to optimize performance.
Key Responsibilities
STRATEGIC AND OPERATIONAL PLANNING (30%)Develops, leads and executes an integrated comprehensive marketing and communications plan designed to ensure top of funnel activities lead to increased engagement of businesses with health and safety services.
Uses data, evidence, and research from the prevention system to identify priority market segments including high risk sectors and position WSPS’s value with Ontario businesses.Utilizes WSPS and prevention system priorities to inform the development of marketing, communication, events and the team’s operational plans.Actively manages and collaborates on prevention system initiatives to raise awareness of shared priorities and plans, such as MLITSD initiatives, and course corrects as necessary, to respond to emerging needs.Uses data to evaluate marketing program impacts and inform future plans. Designs and / or implements reports to highlight campaign results and link marketing expenditure to results.Provides a vision and roadmap for WSPS brand enhancement, including a focus on external stakeholder feedback and internal alignment of the brand with emerging strategic priorities.Identifies relevant trends and recommends innovative and new best practices to grow both content and channels to reach priority market segments.MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS LEADERSHIP (30%)Leads a team of Managers and staff to achieve team objectives and contribute to WSPS corporate goals. Provides strategic and operational planning, support, and oversight to ensure goals and commitments are achieved.
Establishes and communicates the marketing and communications campaigns and calendar to WSPS leadership and other key stakeholders.Oversees digital marketing and looks to optimize digital marketing platforms and channels, including the website, customer platforms, and social media.Oversees content development and communications (internal, external, and media relations), and contributes to crisis communications and business continuity plans.Oversees the development of the events plan and takes responsibility for successful plan implementation in coordination with the team.Works with the marketing team to execute product and consulting launch plans in coordination with peer Directors across WSPS.Communicates operational successes, risks and opportunities as required via SLT, and management / team meetings.Supports continuous improvement of team process workflows by designing, activating or using technology and tools for greater efficiency.EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT, DEVELOPMENT AND ADMINISTRATION (20%)Effectively leads, guides, coaches, and provides candid feedback to other people managers.
Provides the necessary training, resources, and support to ensure team members are continually developing and enhancing their capabilities and staying on top of relevant trends.Assists the team in understanding and embracing changes taking place in the organization; Reinforces the WSPS vision and connects employees to the vision.Supports cross functional work as appropriate across WSPS to provide opportunity to further develop the team.Applies HR policies and procedures and ensures consistent practices across the division.CUSTOMER AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT (10%)Participates in prevention system meetings (as required) to deepen relationships and identify collaboration opportunities across the system.
Presence at major events, workshops, and trade shows to explore opportunities to showcase WSPS, increase brand recognition and engagement.Engages with internal stakeholders to support broad organizational objectives.Effectively articulate the WSPS value proposition, brand promise and ROI for marketing and communication strategies.RISK MANAGEMENT AND FINANCIAL DILIGENCE (10%)Identifies and flags potential risks and proactively identifies mitigation solutions.
Brings high-level operational risk items to the Senior Leadership team for discussion, review and problem-solving.Oversees budget preparation and monthly forecasting in collaboration with Finance and marketing, events and communications management team.Tracks ongoing financial metrics and leads the implementation of corrective actions as necessary.Ensures adherence to corporate policies and procedures (e.g., IT, Finance and HR policies, signoff / approval procedures).Uses knowledge of contract law (including IP and copyright laws) and risk management principles to ensure compliance, risks mitigation and opportunity advancement (i.e. licensing).Escalates major issues and involves or informs other stakeholders as appropriate.CONTRIBUTES TO A HEALTHY AND SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT (at all times)Complies with all Health and Safety policies, procedures and company rules established in WSPS Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).
Contributes to promoting a healthy, safe, and respectful culture.Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.Skills and Experience
Minimum :
Education in Business, Marketing, Communications or a related discipline.7-10 years of progressive management experience with emphasis on leading multi-functional teams, and developing marketing and communication campaigns including internal corporate communications.Experience leveraging digital marketing as a channel to promote the brand and drive business growth.Experience developing operation plans that include events and tradeshows.Proven record of cross functional collaboration across the organization.Ability to be responsive to the changing business environment.Self starter with strong work ethic, shows initiative and able to work independently.Able to be flexible to organizational and departmental expectations, as well as changing key stakeholder demands.Ability to work well under pressure and in a faced paced environment.Preferred :
Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or a related discipline.10+ years of progressive management experience with emphasis on leading multi-functional teams, and developing marketing and communication campaigns including internal corporate communications.Knowledge of Health and Safety.Additional Requirements :
Valid Ontario Driver’s License and ability to travel on an occasional basis.Access to a vehicle that meets minimum MTO safety standards.Application Information
