About the Job :
As a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive patient care under the guidance of a Physician and the Nurse Supervisor.
The RPN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, ensuring it is evidence-informed, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, person-centered, and recovery-oriented.
The RPN collaborates closely with healthcare professionals in a safe and secure environment, ensuring quality care for patients undergoing treatment for mental health and addiction challenges.
Much of the RPN's role involves direct interaction with patients, fostering therapeutic relationships and support.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing or a related field from an accredited institution
- Completion of a recognized psychiatric nursing program
- Valid RPN license in the province or territory of practice
- Registration with the relevant nursing regulatory body
- Clinical experience in psychiatric nursing or mental health settings preferred
- Familiarity with addiction treatment and recovery practices
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
- Understanding of mental health disorders and treatment modalities
- Awareness of trauma-informed care and culturally sensitive practices
- Compassion and empathy toward patients and their families
- Resilience and ability to manage stress in challenging situations
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and education
Job Function and Duties :
Delivering client care according to the College of Nurses Standards of Nursing Practice in an inter-professional shared care case management modelReporting to the Nursing Supervisor, providing ongoing client care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning implementation and evaluationFormulating and implementing client care plansSafely implementing physician's ordersAdministering medications to clientsMaintaining current progress records on clients according to legal and ethical standardsOrientating, facilitating and reinforcing client's involvement in addiction treatmentDeciding and initiating on course of action in case of medical emergenciesProviding supportive counselling to clients, families and / or significant others on typical recovery issuesMaintaining a therapeutic environment on the unit conducive to the client learning productive patterns of livingProviding ongoing health teaching to clients in relation to common health problems and the clients maintaining a healthy lifestyleCoordinating individual client appointments and referralsActively participating with team members in the assessment, planning and evaluation of the client and his careAssisting the public with crisis intervention and information on addictionPerforming other duties as outlined on shift duty lists and as assigned by the Manager of Nursing and Patient CareEmployee Benefits and Perks :
