The Office of the Registrar at U of T Mississauga delivers registrarial services to support U of T Mississauga's academic goals and U of T priorities in the areas of student information, interpretation of policies, and innovation of registrarial interactions.

Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Academic Advising Services, the Academic and Financial Aid Advisor provides academic and financial aid advising services to undergraduate students, assisting them in making decisions affecting their academic progress at U of T Mississauga from enrolment through to graduation.

Keeping within the goals and objectives of the Office of the Registrar, the Advisor provides clear, concise and informative communications concerning student enrolment, financial aid, registration and records policies and procedures, applying proactive and relevant strategies that focus on retention and graduation.

The Academic and Financial Aid Advisor assists students with a wide range of academic and financial issues and concerns, including interpretation of University requirements, policies and procedures, selection of courses and programs and meeting degree requirements. The Advisor

advises students on the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), the University of Toronto Advance Planning for Students program (UTAPS), grants, bursaries and other student aid programs available to U of T Mississauga undergraduate students, interpreting academic award and financial

aid conditions. The Advisor is responsible for developing and presenting group advising sessions covering a wide variety of academic policies,

procedures and requirements and promoting existing financial aid programs and awards.

The Academic and Financial Aid Advisor works as a collaborative member of the academic advising and financial aid teams assisting with balancing the advising work schedule and supporting the work of the teams and the Office of the Registrar as a whole.

The Advisor assists with the organization of scholarship and awards ceremonies and contributes to the development of enhanced services for students to promote retention and improve the overall student experience.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Advising students on academic and / or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Advising students on program and / or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
  • Interpreting academic regulations, program and degree requirements
  • Advising students on financial aid matters, bursaries, budgeting and personal financial management by probing and providing a range of options and possible outcomes
  • Providing detailed information to students regarding completing financial aid applications
  • Updating and maintaining documentation
  • Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and / or initiatives
  • Providing significant support to individuals in emotional distress during the course of performing regular duties

Essential Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Minimum four (4) years' experience working in a high pressure, direct student services post-secondary or university environment
  • Experience advising undergraduate students on university undergraduate academic and financial aid requirements, policies and procedures
  • Experience processing undergraduate student financial aid applications and advising on OSAP and other financial aid programs, bursaries and grants
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations and / or workshops
  • In depth knowledge of university undergraduate academic and financial aid policies and procedures as they relate to students' academic life at the university
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to employ tact, discretion and sound judgement
  • Strong commitment to diversity and ability to function with sensitivity and respect in a multicultural / international environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and commitment to working effectively as a team member in the delivery of quality service
  • Proficiency in the use of ROSI, Degree Explorer, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities Financial Aid database (ONe-Key OSAP System) and MS Office, with the ability to learn and use new applications
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, flexibility and capacity to handle a heavy workload, to multitask and work well under pressure
  • Ability to solve complex problems involving individual and group needs and to identify systemic implications and impacts on student access

USW Pay Band 12 $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation / Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
