Job description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Production Sr. Director and VP QA / H&S the incumbent will develop and implement pest control programs and procedures to ensure compliance with current legislation GMP, HACCP, BRC, and other applicable requirements and standards. Drive continuous improvement of pest control by managing documentation, data, risk analysis, and processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Pest control activities to ensure compliance with current legislation.
  • Develop, update, and manage necessary documentation pertaining to Pest Control including the Pest Control Plan.
  • Identify, evaluate, plan, and implement effective actions to improve pest control and risk assessment. Communicate findings to management.
  • Lead initiatives on the floor to control and reduce contamination and to ensure a high level of food safety according to the company and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide pest control expertise on the evaluation of manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Inspect buildings and exterior areas to identify where wildlife is taking refuge outside of their natural environment, and relocate them.
  • Install barriers to help guide wildlife out of potentially dangerous situations inside residential and commercial structures.
  • Bird trapping / spiking / nest removal according to Ministry of Environment and SPCA guidelines.
  • Provide guidance for the best extermination processes for the identified infestation source and whether the process will include pesticide use, mechanical traps, blockages, and / or other pest control methods.
  • Follow safety procedures and product instructions at all times when using fumigants, pesticides, and power spraying equipment, such as wearing protective gear guidelines.
  • Maintain proper inventory of tools, equipment, and materials in company vehicles.
  • Manage schedule and route to ensure services are completed in a timely manner.
  • Other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Structural Exterminator License is required
  • Associate’s / Bachelor's degree in food science, Microbiology, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Computer fluency
  • Work Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 kg
  • Personal Protective Equipment is required
  • Hazards associated with manufacturing
  • Work short periods in a cold or hot environment.
  • Occasional flexibility in terms of workdays or hours may be required.
