Role Summary
Co-ordinates activity to obtain costing to support New Programs; Engineering Changes, R&D requests, CI proposals and Market Tests for all production / prototype components or services as required.
Provides resource knowledge, recommendations and direction to program teams. Completes assigned duties and responsibilities with the support of senior purchasing personnel and purchasing management.
Key Responsibilities
- Sends out RFQ to selected sources. Performs analysis of costs for use during sourcing process.
- Develops and utilizes knowledge of commodities and supplier cost structure to achieve cost reduction and price negotiation objectives.
Procures prototype components and material to support pre-production builds.
- Supports key dates during the Product Delivery Process representing the Purchasing Department and meeting program timelines
- Reviews, updates and maintains RFC - RFQ requests in online database, includes reviewing part drawings, CAD files and program information for RFQ
- Assist with sourcing activities for the program teams. Supports development of sourcing plans, supplier recommendations, and assists in bid recap for key stakeholder approval, based on program cost, quality and technology requirements, program milestones, and Strategic Purchasing direction.
Creates transmittals and follows up on blanket PO issuance. Prepares tooling and / or prototype requisition and purchase orders as required following authorization to proceed.
- Supports preproduction orders and build schedules. Tracks tooling and prototypes following kickoff to ensure timelines are met.
- Attends meetings representing the Purchasing Department and follows up as required (ENG, Quote, Kickoff, Quote Review, APQP, PDP meeting)
Key Responsibilities
- Market tests non-production items occasionally.
- Prepares blanket PO’s to support these items following the selection process.
- Maintains information on supplier piece cost, revision levels, and capacity Work with Purchasing Buyers on ongoing cost savings projects.
- Focused effort to maintain and develop a qualified supply base that works with Magna Seating in a partnership to ensure our goals are achieved.
- Works with senior purchasing team to ensure vendor relationships are developed and maintained.
- Assists with the resolution of problems in supplier performance such as quality and delivery.
- Focused effort to support Purchasing Department budgeted targets Maintains Purchasing Departments procedures.
- All activity is performed under the guidelines of Magna Seating’s Business Operating System and procedure manuals.
- Must comply with all IATF, AODA, C-TPAT, ISO 14001 (Environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) systems and standards as it pertains to their work
Key Qualifications / Requirements
- Minimum 6 months purchasing experience
- Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business or equivalent
- Working towards purchasing designation (CSCMP) an asset
- Proficiency working with Trans4M and SAP
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Product knowledge in automotive parts or material commodities
- Ability to work with multiple demands and competing deadlines
- Strong communication and negotiation skills : verbal and written
- Well organized
- Demonstrated successful performance with independent problem solving
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
