About the role :

This role is a key contributor in the Corporate Finance team responsible for supporting Sun Life’s quarterly external and internal financial reporting functions, with a focus on internal Business Group ( BG ) and Business Unit ( BU ) reporting.

The successful candidate will work on a growing finance & technology hybrid team, which drives a newly implemented financial reporting platform to centralize and integrate the data collection and reporting functions using technology-based tools (Longview, Workiva etc.

and automated workflow capabilities. The successful candidate will contribute to the Sun Life’s BG / BU financial close process and support select core internal reporting documents.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, results-driven individual with exceptional attention to detail, a passion for accuracy and motivation to drive change to improve operational efficiency.

What will you do?

  • Participate and implement in a 12-month project to transform select BG & BU internal quarter-end reporting processes by integrating the principle of collect once, use many times to minimize duplication and satisfy a wide range of users across reporting and analysis functions.
  • Be part of a project team and ensure timely delivery on project milestones within a very tight development timeline during onboarding of new reporting areas and enhancement initiatives.
  • Liaise and build strong relationships with BG / BU contacts through supporting and maintaining their internal reporting process and delivering accurate data flow.
  • Partner with technical, accounting and business teams on maintaining / enhancing existing deliverables and building / automating new deliverables and controls using multiple reporting tools, techniques, and sources of data.
  • Use the developed reporting solution to execute on quarterly and annual reporting processes as assigned to ensure accurate and timely production and publishing of financial reporting documents, including the investigation and resolution of identified exceptions / outages.
  • Identify and execute process improvement initiatives in collaboration with cross-team stakeholders to drive operational efficiencies, building upon a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Document and ensure key controls and processes to ensure that procedures and internal controls requirements are met.
  • Contribute to strategic ad-hoc projects across Enterprise Finance as needed.
  • Serve as a key resource to facilitate knowledge sharing and deliver required education for BG / BU end users, ensuring roles and responsibilities are well-understood and users are equipped to execute required processes / workflows independently.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting and / or Accounting designation CPA, CA, CMA or CGA or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in either public accounting or large, multinational organizations, preferably in the financial services or insurance industry.
  • 3+ years of experience with financial reporting & analysis experience, including preparation of financial disclosures, internal reporting, progressive knowledge in IFRS 17 / 9, and change management.
  • Ability to effectively visualize, organize, manage, and validate large volumes of data under tight deadlines.
  • Build and maintain solid relationships with key cross-functional teams and senior leadership across the organization.
  • Effective problem-solving experience in designing and developing reporting solutions and automations.
  • Strong Excel skills and quick learner in various software.

Preferred skills :

Experience with Workiva and Longview is an asset.
