Director of People and Culture

The Director of People and Culture is a senior leadership role responsible for aligning the organization’s human resources strategies with its mission, vision, and values. This role drives the development of an innovative and inclusive workplace culture while ensuring compliance with employment legislation and HR best practices. The Director collaborates with the executive team to attract, retain, and develop top talent while fostering an environment where employees can thrive.

What we offer :

Salary : $89,000 - $104,000 annually, based on experience.

Hours : Monday - Friday, hours between 7am - 5 : 30pm

Location : Central Vancouver Island

Responsibilities :

Strategic Leadership :

  • Partner with the executive team to align HR strategies with organizational goals and strategic plans.
  • Lead the design and implementation of long-term workforce plans, succession planning, and leadership development strategies.
  • Provide strategic guidance on organizational restructuring and change management.

Culture and Engagement :

  • Champion initiatives that promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB). Responsible for the organizational Cultural Competency and Diversity Plan.
  • Conduct employee engagement surveys, analyze results, and develop action plans to address key areas.
  • Serve as a culture ambassador, ensuring alignment between organizational values and daily practices.
  • Policy Development and Compliance :

  • Develop and maintain HR policies and employee handbooks, ensuring alignment with BC labour laws and non-profit standards.
  • Oversee investigations into workplace issues, ensuring resolution in a fair and compliant manner.
  • Maintain a comprehensive risk management approach to HR practices.
  • Talent Acquisition and Management :

  • Create strategies to attract, recruit, and retain diverse talent pools.
  • Develop competency frameworks and career progression pathways.
  • Onboarding and Orientation :

  • Design and implement a comprehensive onboarding program tailored to administrative, childcare, and iCYFS roles.
  • Use Payworks to manage onboarding workflows and MyBGC / Relias platforms for customized training delivery.
  • Ensure onboarding programs align with organizational values, culture, and operational needs.
  • Learning and Development Strategy :

  • Develop a long-term employee development framework, including career pathways, training opportunities, and leadership programs.
  • Integrate MyBGC / Relias LMS platforms into learning initiatives to address role-specific skill gaps.
  • Use metrics and feedback to continuously improve learning programs.
  • Compensation and Benefits :

  • Benchmark and design competitive salary structures that align with the non-profit sector.
  • Manage benefits plans, including group health, retirement savings, and wellness initiatives.
  • Lead annual salary reviews and performance-based adjustments.
  • Team Leadership :

  • Oversee the HR team, providing mentorship and development opportunities.
  • Build a cohesive, high-performing HR team that aligns with organizational priorities and works effectively with program and administrative staff.
  • Serve as a role model for ethical and effective leadership.
  • Qualifications

    Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Professional designation.
  • CPHR designation (or equivalent) required or strong willingness to obtain.
  • Experience

  • 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, including strategic leadership roles.
  • Expertise in strategic HR leadership, workforce planning, and organizational change.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in HR metrics and reporting.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing organization-wide onboarding and development programs.
  • Expertise in adult learning principles and training program design.
