Description :

The Department of Health and Society (DHS) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Health Professions and Practice.

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in a health-related discipline (e.g., Nursing, Medicine, Rehabilitation Science, Health Services Research, Public Health, etc.

by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. A professional degree / qualification in a health science field (e.g.

Nursing, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Paramedicine) is also required. The ideal candidate will have clinical experience, a solid understanding of the Canadian healthcare system, and content expertise relevant to human development and aging.

A research portfolio focusing on health professions and practice areas (e.g., interprofessional practice, health workforce, health professions in community and among older adults, transitions in care, healthcare system strategies for later stages in life, health professions education, practice-based strategies, etc.

is required. Teaching experience is essential, and curriculum or course development experience will be considered an asset.

Strong professional, research, and academic networks are also advantageous. The successful candidate is expected to build strong connections with the new Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health ( SAMIH ).

We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and broaden our existing departmental and campus strengths and priorities.

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent interdisciplinary research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence, which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, communication strategies that are accessible to the populations whom the research is intended to benefit, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, the submitted research statement, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Candidates must demonstrate teaching ability and the capacity to teach a range of courses in areas such as : community-based health and social care, professionalization of health professions, allied health professions, aging across the life course, Canadian healthcare policy, interprofessional healthcare, health equity, and healthcare systems assessment.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, and the teaching dossier, including a strong teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.

Other teaching-related activities can include work as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.
