Melo LLP is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Chief Operations Officer on behalf of a premier hockey development program committed to shaping the next generation of elite athletes.

The COO is responsible for overseeing all operational and business functions. This role ensures the seamless execution of hockey programs, athlete services, financial operations, and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with deep experience in sports management, operational efficiency, and business development.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Program Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the sports academy, ensuring alignment with our mission and performance standards.
  • Work closely with coaching and training staff to optimize player development programs.
  • Ensure compliance with league regulations, player safety protocols, and facility management.
  • Implement and refine policies to enhance the overall athlete experience.

Business & Financial Strategy

  • Manage budgeting, financial planning, and revenue streams, including sponsorships, tuition, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the ownership to execute long-term business growth strategies.
  • Identify and develop new revenue opportunities while maintaining financial sustainability.
  • Athlete Experience & Performance Support

  • Oversee academic support programs, nutrition planning, and mental performance initiatives to ensure a holistic development approach.
  • Maintain strong relationships with players, families, and partner organizations to foster trust and engagement.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve training resources, facility operations, and support services.
  • Staff Leadership & Culture Development

  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of coaches, trainers, and administrative personnel.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement performance evaluations and professional development programs for staff.
  • Marketing, Sponsorships & Community Engagement

  • Oversee brand development, marketing strategies, and digital presence to elevate the sports academy’s profile.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with sponsors, leagues, and community organizations.
  • Represent the academy at industry events, media appearances, and networking opportunities.
  • Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven leadership experience in sports management, operations, or a senior executive role.
  • Expertise in financial management, budgeting, and revenue generation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with athletes, staff, and key stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Sports Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Competitive compensation package based on experience.
