Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) - Annapolis Valley CampusAnnapolis Valley (Middleton), Nova ScotiaEnvironment and Agriculture Technology LabPosition : The position is tentative based on funding outcome, but potentially will be commencing approximately May 5th, 2025, and ending August 22nd, 2025 (35 / hrs per week).Salary range : $18.50 / hrApplication deadline : February 20, 2025ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doingAs a member of the NSCC's Environmental and Agricultural Technology Research Lab of the Annapolis Valley campus, the Summer Student Research Assistant will be responsible for helping Research Associates conduct plant and soil research. This will involve setting up the experiments, maintaining plots, and sampling. Other general responsibilities range from developing status reports and giving presentations related to the deliverables of the project. Further expectations revolve around conducting fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions that may require both indoor and outside working environments.QualificationsTo be eligible for this summer student research assistant position : You must be a NSCC student and returning to school in September or will be graduating from NSCC program in May / June 2025Minimum qualifications : Diploma in Horticulture, Natural Resources, and / or a Degree in a related discipline.Minimum experience : Experience ideally related to plant ecology, crop science, soil science, or tissue culture preferred, but not requiredExperience with compiling diverse datasets from various sourcesExperience with plant and soil analysis will be considered an assetAbility to conduct field research experiments with minimum supervisionWork irregular hoursMinimum skills and ability : Excellent interpersonal skills as well as effective oral and written communication skillsStrong planning and organizational skillsExceptional client service skills and a proven team playerAbility to work as a team member in a deadline-oriented work environmentDemonstrated analytical skills, problem solving techniques and the ability to look beyond symptoms to gather facts and informationExpertise in software including Microsoft office suite of products (Excel, Word, etc)About Nova Scotia Community CollegeWe value Diversity and InclusionThe College values diversity and inclusion and is committed to employment equity.
