On behalf of Nova Scotia Power, Venor is seeking a Senior IT Project Manager to join their Technology Project Management Office (PMO). As a subsidiary of Emera Inc, Nova Scotia Power provides 95% of the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical power to approximately 540,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. As a Senior IT Project Manager, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of managing and leading cross-functional project teams using NSPI’s Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) framework (aligned with PMI’s PMBOK) and / or Agile framework. Your role will encompass providing project management and oversight for the execution of assigned projects in a professional and confident manner. As the successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to join a program focused on transforming customer care and billing at Nova Scotia Power.

What you’ll be doing

The primary accountability lies in ensuring that projects align with NSPI’s overall business goals and strategies, adhering to established timeline and budget constraints while meeting identified business needs. Upholding personal safety and that of co-workers by observing Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations is paramount.

Regular responsibilities include :

  • Deliver compelling presentations to project stakeholders at all levels
  • Cultivate and manage vendor relationships in complex tech projects
  • Swiftly address issues and risks, articulating their impact across stakeholder tiers
  • Lead projects using waterfall, agile, and / or hybrid frameworks
  • Inspire and guide team members throughout project execution
  • Facilitate scrum meetings, workshops, and backlog grooming sessions
  • Provide clear leadership to ensure project benefits are articulated and quantified
  • Monitor project budget meticulously, reporting updates regularly and accurately

What we are looking for

As the ideal candidate, you will possess over 7 years of work experience in project management, preferably with a focus on the planning phase. You understand the importance of diplomacy, active listening, and persuasive abilities in ensuring project success. Key qualities include strong communication, interpersonal finesse, adept conflict resolution, seamless vendor integration, and strong negotiation abilities. This role demands the capacity to operate autonomously towards predefined long-term objectives, exercising substantial discretion in setting assignment priorities.

Other desirable characteristics include :

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Project Management, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • PMI-PMP Certification (PMI-ACP is also highly desirable)
  • Experience using MS Project
  • Experience leading very large enterprise projects and subsequent change management
