The Opportunity :
As the Senior Manager of External Financial Reporting , you will lead the preparation and review of the company’s quarterly and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
You will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, to ensure financial reporting is timely, accurate, and aligned with best practices.
Additionally, you will mentor and coach team members, driving professional growth and fostering a culture of excellence within the financial reporting team.
What You Will Be Doing :
- Lead the preparation, review, and filing of quarterly and annual financial statements, including the management of financial disclosures in accordance with IFRS standards
- Liaise with internal departments and external auditors to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and resolve any issues that may arise
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting and reporting standards and stay updated on changes to regulations that impact financial reporting
- Mentor and coach a team of financial reporting professionals, fostering their development and ensuring the accuracy and quality of their work
- Identify opportunities to improve the financial reporting processes and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of external reporting
- Participate in special projects and initiatives, such as mergers and acquisitions, system implementations, or process transformations, providing financial reporting expertise and leadership
- Coordinate and manage external audits by providing necessary documentation and supporting analysis to external auditors, ensuring a smooth audit process
Success Criteria & Deliverables :
At 3 months into the role, our goal is for you to :
- Build strong relationships with key financial stakeholders
- Gain an understanding of the financial reporting process
At 1 year, our success criteria include :
- Implementation of improvements to streamline processes and increase accuracy
- Significant contribution to the year-end audit
- Ownership of the financial reporting process and preparation of the financial statements
- Recognition as a key contact for technical accounting matters
What We Need From You :
- CPA designation
- 6+ years of experience, with at least 3 years in the retail and wholesale industry
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (IFRS / GAAP) and experience preparing external financial statements for public companies
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to mentor, coach, and develop a team of financial professionals.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and regulators
- Familiarity with technical accounting research and financial document preparation (Legal Entity Statements, MD&A, etc.)
- Ability to analyze complex financial issues and provide clear, actionable recommendations
