Position Overview :

Unilux is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Engineering to lead our engineering team and drive innovation, product development, and operational excellence. This position is critical to maintaining our leadership in HVAC technology while leveraging advancements in the industry and technology.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering, with expertise in scaling operations, leading high-growth product development, and integrating advanced technology.

Key Responsibilities :

Leadership & Strategy :

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team to drive innovation, efficiency, and product excellence.
  • Develop and execute the engineering department’s strategic vision, aligning with the company’s growth objectives and technological advancements.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture focused on continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Provide leadership in scaling engineering processes, ensuring they support rapid product development, increased manufacturing capacity, and future expansion.
  • Product Development & Engineering Management :

  • Oversee the design, development, and testing of new and existing HVAC products, integrating advanced materials, smart technology, and automation for improved performance.
  • Implement best practices from the HVAC, automotive, medical, and aviation industries, applying cross-sector innovations to product design and manufacturing.
  • Support the scaling of production capabilities, ensuring products can be efficiently manufactured at high volumes while maintaining quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Work closely with R&D, manufacturing, and sales teams to ensure product designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and competitive.
  • Stay updated on emerging HVAC technologies, sustainability trends, and intelligent building solutions.
  • Scaling & Growth Initiatives :

  • Develop and implement strategic engineering initiatives that support business growth, market expansion, and increased product demand.
  • Lead the scaling of engineering processes, ensuring efficiency as production volumes grow.
  • Identify and implement automation and digital transformation strategies to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product innovation.
  • Drive engineering standardization and process optimization, reducing time-to-market while maintaining flexibility for customization.
  • Project & Process Management :

  • Manage engineering projects from concept to production, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure projects meet timelines, cost targets, and quality standards while balancing business and technical priorities.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing design processes, manufacturing efficiency, and product performance.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance :

  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with regulations, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Implement and maintain robust quality control measures to guarantee product integrity and customer satisfaction.
  • Support testing and validation efforts to meet energy efficiency, acoustics, and safety regulations.
  • Collaboration & Communication :

  • Partner with sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams to align engineering initiatives with market needs and business objectives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners.
  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership, offering insights into engineering performance, project status, and industry advancements.
  • Qualifications & Experience :

    Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree is an asset).
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in the HVAC, automotive, medical devices, aviation, or industrial manufacturing industries, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record in scaling engineering teams and processes, supporting high-growth environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, heat transfer principles, thermodynamics, and energy efficiency standards.
  • Experience leading engineering teams in product development and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with smart HVAC systems and automation technologies.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred :

  • Experience in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Background in building automation systems, or smart HVAC technologies.
  • Experience applying automotive, medical, or aviation industry innovations to HVAC product design.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation an asset.
