Toronto's new Ontario Line subway is now under construction. The Connect 6ix consortium has a key role in this project, delivering the trains, the signaling system, and the operations, storage, and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate the Ontario Line for a 30-year term once it comes into service.Role overviewThe Civil Coordinator will oversee the civil and structural components of the Step-Up Substation (SUSS) construction project under the direction of the SUSS Project Manager. This includes supervising on-site activities for utilities, earthworks, foundations, superstructure, and related works. Success in this position involves meeting production targets, adhering to safety and quality standards, and ensuring tasks align with the overall project schedule.Role and general responsibilitiesAssist the SUSS Project Manager with daily and weekly construction planning for civil and structural activities.Coordinate short-term work schedules (e.g., lookahead plans) to align with the master project schedule.Oversee on-site civil construction tasks such as earthworks, foundations, slabs, and superstructure, ensuring compliance with drawings and specifications.Monitor production rates and provide timely feedback or corrective measures to meet project milestones.Collaborate closely with Quality and H&S teams to ensure all civil work meets standards, codes, and safety regulations.Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential non-conformances and coordinate necessary corrective actions.Prepare daily and weekly progress reports, highlighting accomplishments, challenges, and future work plans.Communicate effectively with the Project Manager regarding potential risks, resource needs, and any production bottlenecks.Facilitate on-site coordination meetings with subcontractors and technical teams to resolve issues quickly.Liaise with the design / technical team on RFIs, field changes, redlines, and as-built documentation.Provide technical input and recommendations to support decision-making and issue resolution.Manage on-site resources by coordinating labor, equipment, and material needs to ensure smooth execution.Interface with key stakeholders such as utility providers, rail corridor representatives, and adjacent contractors to maintain uninterrupted progress.Document lessons learned for continuous improvement and future reference.Skills and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).5+ years of experience coordinating or supervising civil works in infrastructure or building projects.Familiarity with Ontario or Canadian construction codes and standards.Experience working near or within active rail corridors is strongly preferred.Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.Working knowledge of project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and standard office software (e.g., MS Office Suite).Understanding of job site safety practices and relevant regulatory requirements.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with subcontractors, stakeholders, and team members.Proactive problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and focus on continuous improvement.WORK ENVIRONMENTAt WeBuild, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive culture that promotes gender equity and the recruitment of under-represented groups at all levels of our workforce.
