We’re looking for a Pathology Assistantto join our Histology team in Brampton, Ontario. You will be responsible for delivering in a timely manner the highest level of clinical and scientific quality to everyone we serve with a variety of testing using the latest technology. Your contributions will make a difference- the anatomic pathology support services you deliver will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone’s life. How YOU will make a difference :
Perform gross examinations of surgical specimen, selects, dissects and prepare tissue sections for further processing and examinationPerforms embedding of tissue in tissue blockProvide accurate and efficient gross descriptions and documenting gross findings in accordance with laboratory manuals procedures and protocolsReview clinical history providedUse positive patient identification to ensure that all requisitions and worksheets (electronic or paper), specimens, portions are traceableSet up and operate laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinationsLoad tissue processors in accordance with defined SOPs and tracking proceduresMaintain accurate records and documentation for activities in their areaOpen, separate, number and arrange specimens for laboratory examination and trace resultsMaintain simple laboratory records and inventory for supplies and reagentsMaintain laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance recordsMaintain a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and proceduresParticipate in all quality assurance programs and ensures company and Ministry of Health guidelines are observedMaintain knowledge of current policies and procedures in their assigned work area; complete action items, read work-related emails, attend staff meetings, stay informed, etc.Use protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn to ensure safetyReport to manager / senior the absence of or defect in any equipment, protective device or hazard of which the employee is aware and which may endanger oneself or another employeePerform other duties as requiredWhat YOU bring to the role :
Knowledge of HistologyKnowledge of Medical terminology and Gross Anatomy and dissection techniquesStrong knowledge of MicroanatomyGraduate of an approved Laboratory Sciences program or equivalentBachelor of Science in Biology or equivalent education directly related to the duties and responsibilities specifiedProven excellence working in team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills and professionalismCAP certification is beneficialExcellent computer skillsAbility to prioritize specimens for processingProven ability to perform duties independently or as a team member with high degree of motivationDemonstrated problem solving skills, able to exercise independent judgment within scope of practiceDemonstrated commitment to professional self- developmentAbility to multi- task and perform under pressure while ensuring the integrity of the test results in a fast paced environmentLong periods of concentration requiredWorking Conditions
