Job description

Havergal College is one of Canada’s preeminent day and boarding independent schools for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Located in Toronto, Ontario, Havergal offers a rigorous curriculum designed around the pillars of academics and wellbeing. The school is situated on a beautiful 22-acre campus and employs more than 200 faculty and administrative staff. Enrolling an average of 1,000 students per year, Havergal offers a stimulating and supportive learning environment alongside its strong community that fosters self-confidence, leadership, and teamwork. Reporting to the Deputy Principal, the Dean of Academics is a key member of Havergal College’s Senior Leadership Team and provides leadership, vision, and oversight for the academic program, teaching and learning curriculum development, implementation, and regulation from JK to Grade 12. The Dean of Academics plays an essential role in developing and overseeing an academically robust, relevant, and engaging curriculum that leverages research-grounded, contemporary pedagogical practices and resources. In partnership with the Deputy Principal and Junior and Upper School leadership, the Dean of Academics contributes to the planning for faculty professional development and academic staffing. The Dean oversees the creation of the timetable, assessment and examinations, Ministry inspection, accreditations, and external academic programs, specifically Advanced Placement (AP) and the AP Capstone Program.

The ideal candidate is an engaging and innovative leader with academic leadership and teaching experience, a deep curiosity about emerging trends and best practices in education, the use of technology in the classroom, and how best to prepare students for a world that is changing quickly and unpredictably. The new Dean of Academics will be an outstanding relationship builder with the skills to engage with faculty, staff, and the many constituents who make up the Havergal community. They will be deeply committed to supporting the advancement of girls and women in society, and be a person of exceptional integrity and character, with high energy and superb interpersonal and communication skills.
