Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the CAO, this position will lead a diverse group of tasks for the municipality, including, but not limited to, internal and external communications, community programming, special event planning, volunteer support, act as community liaison and other duties as assigned by the CAO.
As this position involves a high level of interaction with the staff, public and community stakeholders, this position must accurately disseminate and relay information to and from the community and relevant Town personnel as needed. Some evening and weekend obligations will be required.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
This permanent-term position is for maternity leave. The employment term is negotiable for 12 and up to 24 months. Employment with the Town may continue for up to 24 months. The successful applicant will work alongside the Director of Community Development for the remainder of the term of employment.
The start date may be as soon as possible up to March 31, 2025.
JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Communications
- Prepare internal and external written promotional and communication material for the Town as determined by the CAO, including, but not limited
- to, news releases, Council meeting highlights, Town Newsletter, special events, community programs etc.
- Create and provide news releases to local media. Coordinate news events and media interviews on behalf of the CAO and Council.
- Manage postings on the Town website and social media platforms.
- Continue with the implementation of the Town’s website and branding projects.
- Serve as an information liaison for Town staff and members of the public as it relates to community programming and special events.
- Assist with special communications projects such as the development of a social media content strategy
Events
Manage / oversee the 30 Years a Town calendar of community events alongside the CAO.Devise strategies and initiatives that develop, support, and retain community volunteers.Develop, oversee and / or assist with the planning and coordination of special staff and community events as determined by the CAO.Community Programming
Liaise with community partners providing programming to the community, including, but not limited to Committees of Council, FCSS, and Coalhurst Parks and Recreation Society.Community Development
Research and preparation of reports for Council. Attend Council meetings as determined by the CAO.Research and oversee grant applications and reporting related to the department.Manage department correspondence and follow-ups.Provide clerical support for Council Committees involved in community programming and special events.Economic Development support as determined by the CAO.Development and analysis of community surveys to determine gaps and needs.Assist with the development of social housing initiatives.Oversee department budget.All other duties as assigned by the CAO.Requirements
Minimum of three (3) years of relatable experience.Post-secondary diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience within a Recreation, Culture and Social programming or Community Services setting.Excellent time management and organizational skills.Ability to work independently as well as within a team.Strong presentation, oral and written communication skills.Political tact, approachable attitude, excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to mediate and problem-solve.Knowledge of website maintenance and social media management is an asset.Flexible, resourceful, and able to adapt to a changing environment.Ability to identify areas for improvement and take initiative to implement appropriate changes.Creative spiritValid Class 5 driver’s licenseWORKING CONDITIONS
Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.Evening and weekend event obligations when required.Lifting or moving 10lbs or more may be required.A normal working day consists of 7 hours, or as determined by policy; however occasional overtime may be required to attend meetings, events or functions as necessary.HEALTH & SAFETY

SALARY
Salary will be discussed as part of the interview process and will be dependent on the applicants level of experience and agreed-upon term of employment. The Town provides a comprehensive leave and health benefits package.

Education and Knowledge Required :
Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education.Familiarity with municipal operations, road construction, and procurement.Comprehensive knowledge of regulations and compliance. Experience and Technical Skills Required :3-5 years of experience in Municipal / Public Works or environmental contracting.Supervisory experience in road and infrastructure construction and repairs.Valid Class 5 Operator's License or willingness to upgrade.Ability to coordinate Alberta One-Call and manage heavy construction equipment.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Strong organization and leadership skills.
