Job description

The successful applicant will be part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for the care of patients and families within oncology and palliative care reporting to the Clinical Services Manager with professional accountability to the Professional Leader for Social Work. The social worker will be integral part of the Social Work profession team participating in yearly strategic planning initiatives and corporate professional development.

Qualifications :

  • Ability to provide coverage within Oncology and Palliative program
  • Masters degree in social work required
  • 35 years experience working within a medical unit providing counselling for patients and families
  • Knowledge in community resources especially related to Cancer Care and family support services
  • Member of O.C.S.W.S.S.W and in good standing
  • Knowledge and experience working with relevant legislation (i.e. SDM Act POA Consent and Capacity etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in the psychosocial impact of both acute and chronic illness on the person and family and an ability to assist families through the treatment decision process and terminal illness
  • Understanding of the complex issues pertaining to the palliative care including some coordinating of services such as; placement hospice home
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • May be required to travel between and work at all hospital campuses
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities as required
  • Good critical thinking and problemsolving skills required
  • Excellent attendance punctuality and work record
  • Computer proficiency preferred

Additional Information :

Hours : Currently days including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
