Job description

SUMMARY

Reporting to the President, the Senior Technical Applications Support (TAS) person provides technical leadership to KUKA Canada, our system partners, integrators and end users for the development, demonstration, support and troubleshooting of industrial robots / software and related components.

The TAS supports the KUKA sales team in pre-sales efforts within designated area of responsibility. Assesses robot applications, tests, proves-out, and demonstrates software and / or hardware solutions on KUKA robots per customer requirements.

Provides post-sales project support by executing assigned robotic / automation jobs, including onsite installation, repair and follow up on service escalations. Keeps accurate records of service calls, maintains inventory of service parts, tools, and test equipment. Services are provided in-house, on-site and / or via telephone. Post-sales support is focused primarily on software troubleshooting, Tech package support and development of custom software applications for customers’ specific application requirements.

MUST HAVE :

  • Experience with AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots)
  • Robots (Industrial and / or collaborative)
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Customer-facing skills
  • Solid knowledge of Windows. Basic knowledge of Linux and IT, especially wireless networks
  • Advanced Programming (especially Java)
  • Good math background (geometry)
  • Docker knowledge is an asset

Preference for those who have :

  • Vision, 3D Vision, and AI would be an asset.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.

  • Creates product-related presentations and demonstrations in conjunction with sales management.
  • Provide simulation studies to assist the Sales Team in the process of securing new business.
  • Develops technical credibility and rapport with customer. Forwards sales leads to appropriate account manager.
  • Presents technical information in a boardroom or hands-on workshop format with partners and end-customers when necessary. Demonstrates KUKA product / process features and benefits for customers.
  • Supports VP of Sales and / or Account Managers in creation of application concepts, project quotes, budgets, payback analysis, timing and change requirements.
  • Conducts customer visits to support pre-sales product and project groups relative to product / project issues.
  • Assists internal staff and customers to properly integrate KUKA products to application processes. Assists in developing software and interfaces, setting up programs and parameters to best utilize KUKA products with third party equipment.
  • Diagnoses electrical, mechanical and programming problems related to KUKA Robotics equipment and application specific or customized software packages.
  • Requires the ability to perform in-house, on-site and / or telephone troubleshooting, repairs and support of KUKA equipment relative to product / project issues on an as-needed basis. Generates application notes containing product specific problem and solution information.
  • Maintains proposal, package, and demonstration timelines.
  • Develops and manages internal and project-related programs from inception through completion of program. Responsible for maintaining project timelines and informing department manager of project deviation requirements.
  • Informs sales management of project / support deviation requirements.
  • Supports and documents sales opportunity issues from a product standpoint with the emphasis to maintain clear communications globally and locally within KUKA and between KUKA and the customer.
  • Ensures engineering compliance with all customers and / or other pertaining specifications. Ensures company awareness of specifications.
  • Supports regional Technical Support escalations concerning system partners and / or customers with approval of Sales Director.
  • Assist with commissioning of KUKA robots / equipment and interface to third party products (laser sensors, power supplies etc).
  • In cooperation with the Customer Service Manager, you will develop, create, refine and present advanced technical training programs to field service technicians and other technical staff. This will include training programs for advanced KUKA technologies, process training, integration and automation technologies. You will create curriculums, presentations, tests and lab materials as needed to train, reinforce and validate new skill sets among the KUKA team members.
  • Works with the Customer Service Manager and / or related supervisor(s) to identify individual training needs to maintain and continuously improve skills and knowledge of KUKA Robotics products and applications.
  • Leads by example and provides OJT, coaching, and mentoring of upcoming Field Service Technicians. Promotes teamwork and cooperative effort.
  • Requires the ability to work within a flexible work / travel schedule. Requires the ability to travel to customer sites on short notice and frequently requires the ability to work long hours to meet customer needs.
  • Travel to customer sites is required – both domestic (frequent) and international (infrequent).
  • Participates periodically in technical meetings, directly or indirectly, in Augsburg.
  • MUST understand and follow safety regulations as well as identify / report safety concerns they may observe at KUKA Robotics, customer and / or integrator sites.
  • Provides customers with the highest quality of products and services.
  • Understands and applies appropriate quality improvement processes.
  • Adheres to the Quality System and participates in continuous improvement.
  • EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.E. / B.S.C / B.S.M.E.) from four-year college or university and 10+ of related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters or Doctorate in applicable / related field preferred.
  • Robotic Programming experience
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, low voltage circuits, design and / or testing, set up and troubleshooting of robot and automation controls, AC / DC circuits and servo controls.
  • Computer, Robot (KRL or equivalent, Visual Basic, C+, C’) and PLC (Siemens and Rockwell) programming skills / experience.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with PC based systems and information technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, electronic, etc. prints and other related technical documentation.
