Compliance Analyst (Legal Risk and Compliance Department) Calgary, AB
Your Role
Reporting to the Manager, Compliance, the Compliance Analyst will support Firm members with client and file openings, conflicts of interest analysis and Know-Your-Client rules, amongst other responsibilities.
The Compliance Analyst will play a critical role in ensuring the Firm and its members adhere to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies and procedures.
You will be responsible for identifying potential compliance risks and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks.
Work Environment
As part of the Firm-wide Legal Risk and Compliance team, this role can be located in any of the Canadian cities that Fasken has offices (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary, Tsuut’ina Nations, Vancouver, Surrey).
This role will be primarily remote with occasional requirements as per business needs for onsite office collaboration and support.
The successful candidate must live in or around their regional office and be able to commute to the office as often as required.
For Indigenous candidates interested in employment on-reserve, there may be an opportunity at Fasken to do so at our Alberta office situated on Tsuut’ina Nation, west of Calgary.

Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Completing conflict searches to ensure all potential conflicts are identified, documented, and communicated to lawyers and other internal stakeholders. This includes :
- Researching websites for information about corporate affiliations on clients and parties;
- Reviewing conflict reports for relevance and affiliation based on available information;
- Independently analyzing potential conflicts issues with limited guidance.
- Reviewing New Business Intake forms and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures;
- Training legal assistants and other internal stakeholders on compliance activities and procedures;
- Providing ongoing support to legal assistants and lawyers;
- Developing familiarity with Firm professional practices policies and answer inquiries as appropriate; and
- Assisting with special projects when needed.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- University degree in Law, Business, Social Sciences, or a related field;
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a similar role;
- Knowledge and prior experience in a professional services firm (legal, accounting, consulting);
- Previous experience in conducting conflict searches, an asset;
- Good working knowledge of Know Your Client (KYC) Rules, an asset.
