Job description

Who We Are :

STC is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project, we are looking for a qualified Technical Coordinator to join our team. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Technical Coordinator will be responsible for liaising with the design team, the construction team and project management team as well as other members of the project team on a regular basis for this progressive design build project.

What You Will Do :

  • Integrate into the Technical Team to coordinate design matters with the Engineering Consultant and the Construction Team.
  • Receive, check, and seek Project information from the Engineering Consultant, the construction team, other partners, and the Client to have a good design acknowledgement from the Project and to share with the other people involved into the Project.
  • Prepare narratives, and visual presentations for the design presentation meetings.
  • Support the preparation of project deliverables and tracking of submittals.
  • Coordinate technical and administrative activities and liaise among different stakeholders.
  • Monitor and track designers’ performance in accordance with schedule and track design changes.
  • Prepare and review the technical submittals ensuring that they are issued in accordance with the specified design requirements and quality standards.
  • Review the design submissions for quality and scope compliance, identifying design or interdisciplinary issues, ensuring that constructability and construction’s means and methods are coordinated with the Construction Team.
  • Identify potential problems that may occur during the construction process which were not identified in the design and coordinate with the Designer and the Construction team to find a solution.
  • Manage and track design documentation, submittals, and alert the team member of risks related to potential delays.
  • Prepare, issue, and monitor RFI’s.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the design team and construction team.
  • Other duties related to design management.

Experience You Will Bring :

  • A degree / diploma in Civil Engineering or Project Management from a recognized institution.
  • Similar / relevant engineering design / design management experience would be considered an asset.
  • Technical Skills : Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and MS Project) and working knowledge of CAD (Autodesk AutoCAD), BIM software (Autodesk Navisworks) and Bluebeam
  • Knowledge of OBC and other municipal standards and regulations would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of design and construction of civil infrastructure projects.
  • Previous working experience in Rail Projects or Transit is considered an asset.
  • A strong eye for design details and the ability to coordinate civil design and assist in making design-driven decisions.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Able to lead discussions with the partners, clients, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated strong team work ethics and decision-making skills.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
