The Rail Corridors Extensions Team is seeking a Project Coordinator who, under the guidance of the Project Manager and Manager, will coordinate with Internal and External Stakeholders to complete the construction of the assigned transit infrastructure projects as part of the Capital Projects Group in a safe, timely, consistent, and cost-effective manner.
What Will I Be Doing?
- Oversee the project work of design and construction to ensure compliance with the Project Agreement, Metrolinx’s Engineering Standards, Building Code and Site Plan Control Requirements and internal user group requirements through all project lifecycle stages.
- Coordinate reviews of project contractor’s site work plans and ground disturbance permits to minimize customer and Metrolinx revenue service impacts, ensure all internal and external approvals from stakeholders are obtained, and that reviews are completed timely and schedule restrictions are adhered to.
- Oversee all site works and construction works, working directly with contractors on site, through coordination from the office, as well as occasional site visits.
- Plan, track and report all capital project expenditures such as consultant fees and addenda, purchase orders, construction contracts, change orders.
- Work with Project Manager to manage risk, cost, schedule, permits and all other performance indicators related to execution of the work.
- Will be working in a fast-paced schedule construction environment and will need to be able to problem solve and work collaboratively with others to resolve issues and facilitate the execution of the works.
- Prepare and submit tender document specifications for construction and consultant contracts for submission to the Procurement Team for tendering.
Assists Procurement Team during tendering by providing information to contractors and consultants.
- Coordinate projects to minimize customer impacts, ensure all internal and external approvals are obtained, and that design and cost dispute resolution and timely completion within established budget and schedule restrictions are adhered to.
- Participation with on site construction meetings, site reviews, and safety compliance, including ensuring compliance with contract document management.
- Participate in ongoing risk reviews and schedule management.
- Ensure project completion and commissioning for handover to user group.
- Prepare reports, logs, and presentations to various stakeholders and the management team on a regular basis, working collaboratively to meet internal and external stakeholder requirements.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- A college diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering / architecture.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and coordinating contracted engineering projects.
- For this particular role, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is a must.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of civil engineering and architecture.
- Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate procedures and applicable contract legislation.
- Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and think analytically.
- Proficiency in the use of project management software and other applications such as Bluebeam, Revit, GIS, MS Excel& AutoCAD would be desirable.
- Have a valid Ontario G Driver’s License in good standing.
