Our client is looking for a Solutions Architect for a 1-year contract to start. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing complex payment equipment solutions that address business challenges while aligning with the organization's goals and objectives.
You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including other architects, business and product teams, project and program teams, and development and operations teams, to translate business needs into scalable and efficient technical solutions that align with the client's roadmap.

Responsibilities
- Develop high-level and detailed solution & end to end architectures and roadmaps that encompass various components, including hardware and software applications, data structures, integrations, infrastructure, and security ensuring architectural coherence, scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Manage the lifecycle of payment equipment, from procurement, integration, deployment to operation.
- Create comprehensive architecture documents, diagrams, and presentations of payment equipment to communicate designs, strategies, and recommendations to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Clearly articulate the benefits and trade-offs of different architectural options.
- Oversee the devices integration of including vending machines, tablets, mobile devices, fare collection equipment and their supporting componentry (ie, PIN PADs, card readers, printers, network equipment, cash collection and recycling, power management).
- Design and oversee the integration of various system components, including third party applications, hardware components, networks, databases, APIs, and services.
- Define and enforce architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices for solutions. Conduct architecture reviews to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into comprehensive solution designs.
Analyze existing systems, technologies, and processes to identify gaps and propose innovative solutions that meet business objectives.
Research and evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and platforms to identify opportunities for improving the solution architecture and staying ahead of industry trends.
Provide recommendations on technology selection and adoption.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication and collaboration throughout the solution development lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to development & project teams during the implementation phase. Review architecture, design and technical documentation to ensure compliance with architectural standards and best practices.
- Identify potential risks and challenges associated with the solution architecture and propose mitigation strategies. Consider factors such as scalability, performance, security, maintainability, monitoring and compliance.
- Continuously assess the effectiveness of the solution architecture and recommend enhancements & optimizations. Stay up to date with industry best practices and evolving technologies, services & trends to drive innovation and improve the overall quality of the solution.
- Assess hardware certifications required for equipment deployed in a variety of environments, including environmental certifications, dust and water ingress, impact resistance, rail certifications, etc.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of demonstrated experience as a solution / application / integration / enterprise architect. Financial services or payments industry experience preferred.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience in fare collection equipment, ticket vending machine, or mobile devices.
- Experience with hardware certifications against environmental factors (heat, cold, rain, dust) and impact resistance.
- Strong understanding of hardware solutions such a vending machines, ATMs, tablet and mobile based solutions and integration like fare API would be an asset.
- Strong knowledge of communication protocols used in payment systems (e.g., NFC, EMV).
- Knowledge of Payment technology on fare equipment is an asset.
- Relevant architecture certifications, such as TOGAF / Zachman / Azure etc. are desirable.
- Proficiency in designing and implementing scalable, distributed systems with hands on development experience.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and influence decision-making processes.
- Project management skills and the ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Familiarity with standards like PCI DSS & AODA
- Ability to lead solution development in a multi-vendor environment.
