We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Manager - 18 months contract. This role is based in our Toronto office, and reports to the Director, Supply Chain.

Job purpose :

As the head of the Purchasing team, the Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating purchasing activities for Winchester, TN, Toronto, ON, and outside Distribution Centres, including but not limited to raw materials & packaging, equipment, supplies, and services to support the day-to-day operations for all sites. The successful candidate will lead their team of direct reports to deliver against group objectives while taking individual ownership of specific segments of work.

The role serves as a key member of the HK-Supply Chain Team and will often be called upon by Senior Leaders in the organization as a subject matter expert supporting the S&OP (Sales and Operation Planning) process, including strategic sourcing plans for growth, optimization, and risk mitigation.

The Purchasing Manager must be capable of performing all functions in their team as a means of providing relief and support as well as ownership of a category or process as the primary resource.

Key responsibilities :

  • Lead team of Buyer(s) that handle direct and indirect purchasing programs for the sites to ensure that raw materials, packaging, resale, equipment, supplies, and services are delivered on time and at the best value.
  • Develop and deploy strategies across all major spend categories, and use appropriate Purchasing tools such as RFx and reverse Auction to complete the strategies
  • Negotiate key contracts for the business to generate P / L cost savings, secure supply and mitigate supply risk.
  • Manage the development of standardized processes, tools, and systems to maintain overall efficiency and transparency of the buying function.
  • Launch a Supplier Management Process to improve relationships through the development of scorecards and 360 feedback loops with key suppliers.
  • Develop Purchasing KPIs & drive monthly reporting and analysis to capture trends and performance.
  • Monitor and analyze the supply chain variables (market, demand, and total cost) to anticipate and prevent risks.
  • Understand supplier sustainability efforts and collaborate with stakeholders to drive an overall more sustainable supply chain.
  • Support to the ERP Stream Lead during and post-implementation.
  • Promotes and holds to account team on adherence to Master Data governance.

Experience and Qualifications :

  • University degree or diploma in Business, Operations, Logistics Management, Purchasing, or equivalent is required
  • 7 years of proven experience in procurement for the manufacturing industry
  • CSCMP or similar certification and / or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Leading a team of professional buyers and strong mentoring skills, able to train and develop junior reports
  • Intermediate to Sophisticated Level Excel skills required
  • SAP experience is a must
  • APICS Certification is an asset
  • Good knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques for Direct & Indirect Commodity Spend.
